Rally d'Italia Sardegna
Petter Solberg and Chris Patterson finish on the Podium in Sardinia.
Fifth fastest through the first stage of the final morning and holding fourth place overall; Petter reported issues with the car’s damper settings. A better run through the next stage, SS16, saw Petter and Chris set the third fastest time behind Ford’s Jari-Matti Latvala and Citroën’s Sebastien Loeb, closing the gap slightly between themselves and third place overall Sebastien Ogier.
Flying through SS17, they were fastest in stage, moving up to third overall ahead of Ogier who hit a rock and broke the rear suspension. An adjustment of an incorrect timing from yesterday for Ford driver Mikko Hirvonen meant that second place moved further away from the Petter Solberg World Rally Team as the gap between second and third was widened to 5.8 seconds before the Power Stage.
It’s been flat out all weekend and I loved it! The podium is very important for the team and I am feeling stronger than ever.
Petter and Chris finish the final day on the podium in third place. Sebastien Loeb is the winner of Rally Sardinia, with Mikko Hirvonen taking maximum bonus points from the Power Stage as well as second place on the rally.
"I’m very happy, says Petter Solberg. "It has been a good rally and I’m happy with our speed and performance, who knows what could have happened if we hadn’t had the turbo thing. It’s been flat out all weekend and I loved it! The podium is very important for the team and I am feeling stronger than ever. Anything is possible in Argentina!"
The next event is Rally Argentina 26th - 29th May 2011
