World champion creates his own problem after wipers stop working, but clings to Sweden lead.
Sebastien Ogier is now only one second clear of Volkswagen Polo teammate Jari-Matti Latvala after hitting problems straight after lunch on Rally Sweden.
Ogier’s problems started when his windscreen wipers stopped working in the middle of SS6. He was 16s slower on his second run through the Kirkenaer stage, which was a re-run of the previous test.
“The wipers were blocked in the middle, I had to slow down,” he reported.
Ogier worked on his wipers before the start of SS7, but forgot to pin his bonnet down securely, and it flew up and smashed his windscreen during the stage.
He added: “I made a mistake, forgot to put the pins in, and break the windscreen. It’s even worse now for the vision than having no wipers!”
