Saturday 24.01.2004 - The second day of Rally Monte Carlo brought many changes and facts, which influenced the performance of the competition. The 1st morning S.S. was cancelled after an accident of a car, which blocked the crossing of others and times were assigned by sport officers to all drivers. Subsequently, the last S.S. was cancelled as well due to huge amount of spectators. The surface of the track was mostly dry but dense fog was unpleasant. The snow cower was especially on the last 8km of 9th and 11th S.S.
Jozef Bére? - The driver: "Today we got through by exact commands of the team management. We increased the speed a little bid and we improved our times in comparison with other drivers. The most important was not to make mistake. The 10th place in total results is wonderful. We had also good luck. Other crews, who resigned, missed it. Tomorrow will be also a difficult day and it will be necessary to safe the position by accented driving on the legendary Col du Turini. All the afternoon we had a problem with overheating the engine. The temperature increased rapidly about 8 km after the start of S.S. and the car is switched into safety regime. We drove bigger part of the track without ALS. It is pity because I got used to the tempo."
Petr Starý - The Co-driver: "Today was really hard day. The ride in dense fog required maximal concentration. We were a little bid irritated by moving between the S.S. Spectators created traffic jams and it needs a great amount of fantasy to manage time limits. Dodi (Jozef) responds very well on the increasing temperature of water and thanks to his knowledge of technique he decreases the possibility of damaging the engine to minimum. We hope that the car will resist and we will come to finish."
Problems with overheating of engine were appeared today in the Hyundai Accent WRC car.
1 Marek ?ilhánek - Head of the Team: "Overheating is probably cased by clogged radiator with snow, what was happened on Janner Rally. And then, maybe, a gasket cracked under the head of engine. We will try to replace more powerful fans tomorrow and we will see. It is clearly expressed especially under the load of special stage."
1.1 Peter Ko?i, Eng. - General Manger: "I can evaluate today's performance of the crew as very responsible. Unfortunately, the rules do not let bigger reparation of the engine. It will be very difficult to keep our position."
