Accident at the last stage of the day forces the Portuguese Team to abandon the Rally
The Portuguese Miguel Campos/Nuno Rodrigues da Silva, that where participating for the first time at the Monte Carlo Rally with the Bozian Racing Peugeot 206 WRC, occupying the 11th position overall in the last special of the first stage, where forced to quit due to an accident. Campos and Rodrigues da Silva did not suffer any physical damage, even though the driver was taken to the Gap Hospital as a precaution.
Miguel Campos wasn't taking many risks, accomplishing good qualifying times, specially in the second run of a stage, the only one repeated, where he managed to improve his mark by 1m10s, showing excellent adaptation skills, achieving the goals that had been previously set. Nevertheless, during the final stage of the day, an unexpected incident forced the Portuguese Team to forfeit the Rally.
Miguel Campos: "It was being a truly difficult Rally. It is very complicated to drive fast with two passages. Regarding the accident, it was purely bad luck. Half way through the Rosans/L'epine stage, while cutting a curve, a rock hit the wheel, which must have damaged the braking system hose. There forth I felt a vibration on the front left wheel and a few kilometres from there, in a fast zone drove in fourth gear, just as I was preparing to cross a bridge, I pushed the break pedal but I had no brakes, from that point on I had two options: the audience or the bridge. I chose the bridge."
"It was a strong accident on my side of the car, but fortunately nothing to serious, I am just a little bit shaken. I am sad to end the Rally this way, I was learning a lot and evolving, it was important to drive as many kilometres possible in those conditions, trying to finish at a good position."
