Citro?ns, determined but cautious of the Monte.
On the eve of the second leg of the Monte Carlo rally, the Citro?ns crews stand in first, second and third positions overall. S?bastien Loeb and Daniel Elena lead ahead of Colin McRae - Derek Ringer with Carlos Sainz and Marc Marti immediately behind.
Citro?n is tonight in an ideal position before competing tomorrow in the last leg of the most prestigious world rally.
S?bastien Loeb attacked relentlessly reigning World Champion Marcus Gr?nholm, reducing the gap to 12,8 s until Marcus made a mistake in the "Col de Bleine" (SS9). No doubt that the Citro?n team was hoping for S?bastien to come back on his rival, but no one could have expected such a scenario leaving the doors wide open for Seb's team-mates too.
Silence followed the news as they broke amongst the Citro?n team. Then everyone went back to their jobs with more determination. Even before Guy Fr?quelin's return from the last special stage, each team member had understood there was more to come tomorrow. "There is still one leg to go, four special stages, and over 100 km of timed sections. Thousand of bends to negotiate, dozens of traps to avoid. We must all keep our concentration, be even more careful in order to make the dream come true. "
"It was very hot in the Col de Bleine, admitted S?bastien Loeb on entering the final service park. Before the start of the SS10; I heard what happened to Marcus. From then on I immediately reduced my pace. I drove steadily remaining cautious."
"That's good" commented Colin McRae. "I drove at a regular pace. I feel more and more at ease with the Xsara. Tomorrow I intend to keep the same rhythm, watching for Markko Martin our closest rival".
Carlos then added : "At the start of SS9 I was under pressure from Richard Burns. I couldn't even afford to loose a second. The situation is much more comfortable now. But there is still quite a way to go.."
