Rally Finland is underway and so far, it's a Finn out front.
Jari-Matti Latvala has taken the early lead in his home rally. He set the fastest time in three of the four special stages run in the opening leg, currently 4.5 seconds ahead of VW teammate Sebastien Ogier.
Rain affected today's activited and with the course deteriorating as more cars ran, early starters Ogier and Latvala were definitely at an advantage. Latvala's run wasn't completely impeccable though, sheering off a piece of bodywork at the very end of the day.
Kris Meeke led the charge for Citroen in third, 9.2 seconds off the Finn. Jarkko Nikara was the only retirement from the opening day, and the severe damage to his Ford Fiesta can be seen in the following photo.
Placing fourth was Mikko Hirvonen, who was followed by Juho Hanninen, Andreas Mikkelsen, Mads Ostberg, Thierry Neuville, Robert Kubica, and Hayden Paddon.
