'Kevin's Art Attack on Wales Rally GB!'
Art and motorsport rarely mix, but rising star Kevin Davies will be looking to make the right impression on December's Wales Rally GB, thanks to an exciting and innovative new project. Whilst many young kids dream of being a professional rally driver, the reality is only few can ever realise that dream. Instead, thanks to cooperation between the Welsh Assembly Government, the Royal College of Art, and some of the biggest names in the motorsport world, a fantastic opportunity awaits one lucky youngster!
Children from across the UK have the chance to design a livery for Kevin's Ford Fiesta ST150, which he will contest the FIA World Rally Championship event in. Davies, from Llanfihangel-ar-Arth near Llandysul, has been one of the true stars of the this years Ford Fiesta SportingTrophy. The championship for identical Ford Fiesta ST150's comes to a close this month on the Bulldog Rally, where Kevin is looking to end a season of real achievement in style.
For Kevin though, the real challenge of the year will come later in the year, as he tackles Wales Rally GB for the second year running. Last year Kevin took a class win in his Nissan Micra Kit Car, but 12 month on, the story is much different for the young Welsh charger.
Since then, Davies comprehensively wrapped up the BTRDA 1400 National Rally Championship title for class 'A5' with six wins out of six. Kevin was then selected as a member of the MSA British Rally Elite Academy for rising young stars within UK rallying. Kevin has also scored many fastest stage times on this year's Fiesta SportingTrophy, including a scintillating performance on the Mewla National Rally, where a puncture cost the youngster a near certain victory. A lot has happened for Davies in 12 months, but at the tender age of 21, Kevin knows only too well that this is just the beginning. Being chosen as the official 'Art Car' for Wales Rally GB is a tremendous honour for Kevin, and it is a project close to his heart:
'We always see sports like football, rugby, cricket and athletics pushed to the kids in schools, and that is a great thing' said Kevin. 'However, I'm really excited that our car and Wales Rally GB can be promoted across the UK, and that one lucky student will get to design the look of the car we compete in this year. I think it is fantastic to get kids involved in what is probably the most exciting sporting event that takes place in Wales each year. I'm looking forward to being able to give the winner a real insight into what it takes to go rallying, and how much behind the scenes work there is with the sport. Hopefully the winner of the prize will be cheering us on in South Wales in early December - as that would be great for everyone concerned'.
Entries can still be submitted for this innovative competition. The closing date for entries is October 30th, and to find out more information, parents or pupils can email email@example.com to request an 'Art Car Design Pack'. Once the lucky winner is chosen, Kevin will then see his Geoff Jones Motorsport run Ford Fiesta ST150 transformed from its current livery to one identical to that of the winning entrant. If you want to have the chance to win, then don't delay - enter today.
