JRM Rally Team makes WRC debut in Sardinia
For me, it is important to have a profile on world championship rallies and I am pleased to have the opportunity of doing this with JRM.
The JRM Rally Team will be making its first appearance in the FIA World Rally Championship this weekend, when Jari Ketomaa drives one of its Mitsubishi Evolution Xs on the Rally d'Italia Sardegna. The Sardinia event marks the first of three WRC rounds that the three-times Finnish Rally Champion will contest with the team.
With JRM increasing its rally car sales and hire activity world-wide, the company was delighted when Jari Ketomaa approached them to take part in the Sardinian, Spanish and British rounds of the WRC. However, the 32-year old Finn is no stranger to the team, having used a JRM Evo X to win the Mikkeli Rally in February last year.
On the subject of former associations, JRM are also no strangers to the rally in Sardinia, as they provided Swedish driver PG Andersson with a similar car for this event last year, when it was a round of the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge). Although Andersson’s rally was blemished by transmission troubles, he went on to record the fastest Group N time on every stage he drove.
JRM has built a brand-new, left-hand-drive Group N car especially for this year’s Sardinan event, which sees 11 entries in the PWRC (Production World Rally Championship) category. Ketomaa, together with his co-driver and fellow Finn Mika Stenberg, tested the new Mitsubishi for the first time on Monday to familiarise himself with the car in readiness for the 340km of unique and extremely technical gravel stages that lie ahead.
The 2011 Rally d'Italia Sardegna starts from Olbia on Friday morning and features eight stages during the course of the day. Saturday sees another six, with Sunday offering a further four before cars return to Olbia for the finish in the afternoon.
“For me, it is important to have a profile on world championship rallies and I am pleased to have the opportunity of doing this with JRM. If the rally this weekend goes well, then we may expand what we are doing together, beyond the three events we have planned. I am therefore very much looking forward to driving one of JRM’s cars again.”
John Barnes – Team Manager
“We are delighted to have been able to construct a programme for three WRC events with Jari. We had a successful start to our relationship when we won our first rally together on the snow in Finland. I therefore hope that the good results will continue this weekend, although the weather conditions will be rather different of course.”
