* Final work is being carried out by the Ford World Rally team mechanics on the two new Escort World Rally Cars which will be shaken down this week at the team's base in Cumbria. The cars will be air-freighted to New Zealand on 13 July, in preparation for the second half of the FIA World Rally Championship. The remaining five rounds of the championship resume with Rally of New Zealand, starting on 24 July. * The China Rally which ended last week strengthened its claim for inclusion in next year's FIA World Rally Championship. The rally, which was organised along the lines of a World Championship event, was widely praised by observers. `'It was different from European events, it's a mixture of very fast and fairly rough stages, some of which are very slippery. It's well organised with one service area a day which makes it a very self contained rally. I feel it will be a popular choice if it is added to the championship'', said Carl Goodman, Ford World Rally team race engineer.
