The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) has formed a new alliance with Delphi, one of the world’s major automotive suppliers, which becomes the official Automotive Technology Partner to the all-action series.

Delphi is a leading partner to the top 25 vehicle manufacturers worldwide and focuses on delivering safe, green and connected technologies to its customers. Whether automotive, commercial, vehicle or other market segments, Delphi prides itself on delivering real-world innovations aimed at making products smarter, safer, more powerful and more efficient.

The company’s aftermarket product portfolio includes air conditioning, braking, diesel fuel injection systems and components, steering and suspension and vehicle electronics, as well as diagnostics tools, test equipment and training. Its global network of diesel specialist and Delphi Service Centre garages service these technologies.

Delphi is no stranger to motorsport through its existing sponsorship of the Hendrick Motorsports team in the US-based NASCAR series. It also supports the British Truck Racing Championship. As an official WRC partner, Delphi will have access to branding and marketing rights at rallies throughout the season, as well as a presence on the championship’s official website, www.wrc.com.

Simon Long, the CEO of WRC promoter North One Sport, said: “Delphi’s commitment to delivering real world innovations that make vehicles smarter and safer, as well as more powerful and efficient is a natural fit with the WRC. With their original equipment technology and service expertise, the association with Delphi is very important to us. We are delighted to welcome Delphi to our family of partners.”

Francisco A. (Frank) Ordoñez, president, Delphi Product and Service Solutions, said: “At Delphi, we live and breathe automotive technology and, for us, racing epitomises the very high, extreme durability standards we strive for every day. The WRC shares these very same values, making this a great strategic fit for Delphi. The partnership reinforces our commitment to motorsport and gives us a solid platform on to which build our profile worldwide.”

“This is an exciting partnership for DPSS,” added Carrie Wright, vice president, global brand and communications, Delphi Product and Service Solutions. “The sponsorship will provide a solid, high visibility platform to increase our global awareness, while helping to driving sales through the distribution chain. We know that our customers are passionate about motorsport, and in particular the WRC, and this will form the basis of our marketing efforts in Europe in 2011, including promotions, and hospitality at key races.”

The race for the 2011 WRC title is currently being fought out on the gravel stages of Vodafone Rally de Portugal which concludes on Sunday 27 March.
