Richard Burns has taken ill and was hospitalized for tests on Sunday evening. The Peugeot driver currently is fourth in the World Rally Championship points, only five behind current leaders Sebastian Loeb and Carlos Sainz.

With the new FIA point structure, the battle for the drivers' title has been tight and the outcome of this weekend's Rally of Great Britain will crown the 2003 Champion. Besides Burns, Loeb and Sainz, Petter Solberg is also in the hunt, a point behind Loeb and Sainz.

Burns fainted on Sunday, and even though the prognosis will not be determined until later today, the driver has been disqualified from competition for the season finale.

Peugeot Sport has requested that Freddy Loix and Sven Smeets be allowed to replace the team of Richard Burns and Robert Reid under the FIA article 5.1.4 of the General Prescriptions and article 2.3 under the Regulations of the World Rally Championship

This would allow Peugeot to challenge for the Manufacturers' Championship, where the French marque is currently trailing Citroen by five points.

Until further notice, it appears that Burns' opportunity to win his second WRC title has been removed.
