Mitsubishi aim for third consecutive Argentine win!

The Rally of Argentina marks the midway point in the 1998 World Rally Championship, this is the only round of the series to visit the American continent, but the gravel roads in the rolling sierras west of Cordoba are a firm favourite with the drivers. Some of the stages reach as high as 2000 metres providing special modifications for the World Rally Car engines, however, it isn't just the altitude which characterises the rally - sandy road surfaces which often cut-up to reveal car-damaging large rocks, and water crossings are also part of the challenge. In addition, the event provides some of the most dramatic scenery in the world as the world championship makes its only visit to the Americas. Unlike 1996, the 1997 and 1998 rallies have been run later into the year, a time when the South-American continent is particularly hot, thus adding the extra obstacle of increased tyre wear.

The first leg covers nine special stages, including two runs on the special stadium track and a regroup in La Cumbre on May 21. Leg two heads for Mina Clavero, to the west, for eight special stages, while the final day encompasses three special stages to the south, each being run twice. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
