Revving up for Rally Ireland!
Formula One expert appointed as new CEO for World Rally Championship Round
David Marren, Founding Director and later Managing Director of M&C Saatchi Sponsorship, one of the UK's leading sponsorship agencies, has joined Rally Ireland this week as new Chief Executive Officer.
Marren, who has over 20 years global experience in the fields of PR and Sports Marketing, comes into the post to oversee Ireland's entry into the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) in November 2007. The WRC has a global television audience of more that 800 million people in almost 200 countries. Rally Ireland will be the largest sporting event on the island in 2007 and is the biggest north-south sporting initiative ever undertaken.
Speaking about his new role, David Marren said: "Securing a round of the World Rally Championships for Ireland is a huge coup for the island as a whole and for motorsports fans in particular. Rally Ireland WRC has the opportunity to come into the Championships with a clean slate, fresh ideas, innovative thinking and really show the world what we've got.
"Ireland is the best location in the world for WRC, with great scenery, excellent stages and enthusiastic fans. My role with Rally Ireland will be to put in place the additional resources and infrastructure to showcase that, so as to ensure our long-term position in the Championship and to raise the bar in terms of not only how international sporting events are run in Ireland, but how we're perceived internationally as a top-class venue," he concluded.
With experience in spearheading and implementing commercial sponsorship strategies for many global blue-chip clients including Philip Morris (Marlboro), Heineken and Gallaher PLC, and as Director of all the sponsorship activity for Benson and Hedges with Jordan Grand Prix in the FIA Formula One World Championship, Marren brings vast commercial experience in motor sport to his new role.
He has also worked in Formula One, GP2, International Formula 3000, F3, World Sports Car Championship; World Touring Car Championship and on the PGA European Tour and for the International Golf Association. For many years he was involved with the World Cup of Golf as a commercial adviser and international press officer.
