Watch the best action from World RX in 2015
A short video highlights the best action from the 2015 FIA World Rallycross Championship
The three-minute video captures the excitement of the 13-round season, which started with Johan Kristoffersson securing his maiden World RX victory at the Montalegre curtain-raiser in Portugal. A visit to the legendary Hockenheimring was next on the calendar as World RX joined DTM for the first time. Here it was Petter Solberg who took his first of three victories in 2015.
In round three, it was Topi Heikkinen who triumphed – the Finn taking his second Belgian RX victory in a row at the Mettet circuit. Solberg was hungry for more, however, and the Norwegian secured his second win of the year at the Lydden Hill race circuit in Great Britain the following weekend.
Round five at the Estering in Germany was a memorable event for Davy Jeanney as the Frenchman took a dominant victory for Team Peugeot-Hansen. The iconic Holjes event in Sweden saw the championship secure its fifth different winner in six events as Mattias Ekstrom narrowly prevailed in front of his home crowd.
Canada marked round seven and Jeanney matched Solberg in the 2015 winning stakes as the Frenchman took his second victory of the year at Trois-Rivieres. Jeanney’s team-mate Timmy Hansen was on a charge in Norway to make it two in a row for Team Peugeot-Hansen, before continuing his dominance at the French round in Loheac to make it three consecutive event wins for the Swedish squad.
Solberg returned to his winning ways at the inaugural Barcelona RX, which formed round 10 of the season but the drivers’ championship reached fever pitch when Hansen retaliated with a victory at Intercity Istanbul Park in Turkey.
The penultimate round of the year in Italy saw drama unfold as Hansen crashed out of the semi-finals, while Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud went on to take his first win of the year. At the same event, Team Peugeot-Hansen amassed enough points to win the 2015 Teams’ Championship with one round still remaining.
The final round of the year was staged at the all-new location of Rosario in Argentina and saw the season end as it had started: with a driver taking his debut RX victory. This time it was Sweden’s Robin Larsson who was top of the podium.
Meanwhile, Solberg was crowned the 2015 World RX Champion for the second year in a row, ending the season 26 points ahead of runner-up Hansen. Round one winner Kristoffersson finished the year third overall.
