Scott Speed earns X-Games Gold in Austin

Scott Speed continues to prove his worth as a GRC driver.

Scott Speed drove impeccably during the GRC competition at the Circuit of the Americas Saturday and without a scratch on his VW, he won the Gold Medal for Andretti Autosport.

The final was red flagged after contact between Patrick Sandell and Austin Dyne ended Dyne's day with his Ford Fiesta suffering suspension damage. Patrick Sandell was consequently parked by the race officials.

That controversy was preceded by the highly controversial call to pull contender Brian Deegan out of the final. The officials deemed that he was too aggressive in his pass on Nelson Piquet Jr. and that he cut the course.

Piquet Jr. went on to claim third place and the Bronze Medal. He fought back after he was issued a penalty for taking 'The Joker' twice but didn't move into third until the very last corner when Liam Doran lost control and spun out.

Taking Silver was highly successful X-Games competitor Bucky Lasek, but he was never a threat to Scott Speed.

The inaugural X-Games Stadium Super Truck event will take place at the COTA tomorrow.
