Haudenschild Wins Wild Feature at I-55 Raceway By Richard Day PEVELY, MO (July 24) - Jac Haudenschild's daring racing style earned him the nickname "The Wild Child" before Tyler Walker, Daryn Pittman and Kevin Gobrecht started their racing careers. All four combined to make Saturday's Pennzoil World of Outlaws "A" Feature at I-55 Raceway one of the wildest of the season. Haudenschild drove the #22 Big Daddy's Maxim past Pittman early in the 31st lap and led the final 10 to claim his first "A" Feature victory of the season. "The Big Daddy's car was running well tonight," Jac said. "These young guys are pretty fast, and it's tough to keep them behind you. We were really dicing it there for a while with Tyler and Gobrecht, and Pittman snuck by us all. "We have some big races coming up, and this might mean we will have the Big Daddy's car running well enough for them. It's good to finally win a race here. We led one a few years ago, but cut a tire." Haudenschild, the 14th-fastest qualifier in the 32-car field, won the Third NAPA Auto Parts Heat Race and earned the right to start the 40-lap main event inside the second row by following Walker and Gobrecht across the finish line in the Channellock Dash. Walker claimed his fourth pole of the season by winning the seven-lap race from outside the second row. Gobrecht drove the #93 Amoco J&J around Walker in turn four as the green flag fell in the "A" Feature, only to have the defending Western World champion take the lead with an inside move in the third corner late in the opening lap. Haudenschild used a slide move to pass Gobrecht in turn one early in the second lap, but Gobrecht regained second place seconds later. Dale Blaney brought out the caution flag the next time around when he took the #8H Energy Release Eagle for a spin in turn four. Danny Lasoski, who won the previous two Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series races, exchanged third place with Haudenschild during laps three and four. Walker was seven car-lengths ahead of Gobrecht when he entered lapped traffic during the seventh lap. Gobrecht narrowed the gap to three car-lengths within five laps. Haudenschild rode the rim around the high-banked, 1/3-mile oval to pass Gobrecht in the second corner early in lap 14. Gobrecht came back the next time around, passing Haudenschild and Walker, but Walker took the inside line into turn three to regain first place. Pittman, who started outside the sixth row, drove the #47 Casey's General Stores Maxim past nine cars during the first 19 laps. He passed Haudenschild for third, Gobrecht for second and Walker for the lead during the next four laps. Haudenschild and Walker exchanged second place three times between laps 24 and 27. Gobrecht lost fourth place when he collided with Bill Robertson in the fourth corner and turned completely around late in the 27th lap, allowing three cars to race past. Gobrecht stopped on the back stretch with a broken right rear suspension one lap later. Haudenschild kept pace with Pittman as the green flag replaced the yellow, and took the lead with a high move into the second corner early in lap 31. Defending Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series champion Steve Kinser and series points leader Mark Kinser exchanged fifth place during the final 7 1/2 laps while Haudenschild opened a comfortable advantage. "The Wild Child" was five car-lengths ahead of Pittman when he took the checkered flag. It was Jac's first "A" Feature victory since the Cornhusker Outlaws Showdown at I-80 Speedway last September 26th. Walker finished third, ahead of Danny Lasoski, Steve Kinser, Mark Kinser, Brooke Tatnell, Kelly Kinser, Dale Blaney and Johnny Herrera. Mark Kinser received his 20th Vivarin Fast-Time Award of the year for pacing the qualifying session with an 11.007-second lap. A broken drive line in the #21 PC Joey J&J kept Lance Blevins from taking a qualifying lap. He was unable to qualify for the main event. Mark Kinser will be racing for his third straight Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup victory Tuesday when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series returns to Lernerville Speedway. The winner will receive $32,000 in the eighth annual event. The series will run a double- feature event at Williams Grove Speedway Thursday and Friday and a $42,100 race at Hagerstown Speedway Saturday. WoO
