Kaeding Runs 10th in Volcano Joe's Debut
WEST MEMPHIS, AR (May 5) -- Tim Kaeding was outstanding in his Woodward Racing debut Saturday, driving the #2 Volcano Joe's Coffee Schnee into 10th place in the World of Outlaws "A" Feature at Riverside International Speedway.
"It was a pretty good night for our first time in the car," said Kaeding, who started outside the ninth row. "Getting comfortable in the car was the key. It took me a little bit to get used to get comfortable but, once I did, I think we got going pretty well. We loaded it in the trailer and didn't tear too much up.
"We were pretty good all night. We were a little bit snug early, but the car came around toward the end of the night. We (Crew Chief Troy Renfro and Mechanic Rob Beattie) worked well together; that's a big plus right there."
Kaeding's 11.391-second qualifying lap around the high-banked, ¼-mile oval was the 20th-fastest in the 39-car field. Tim held off veteran Jac Haudenschild to finish fifth in the Fourth Heat Race.
The third-generation racer drove the #2 Volcano Joe's Coffee Schnee past six cars during the first 12 laps, and restarted 14th after Haudenschild hit the outside retaining wall and flipped in turn four, bringing out the red flag with 26 laps remaining. Tim continued moving forward though attrition and excellent racing skills on his way to his seventh top-10 finish of the season.
"I wish it was under different circumstances, but it's a great feeling driving for this team," Kaeding said. "Depending on how long Brooke (Tatnell) is back home taking care of his family stuff is how long I'll be here. The longer I'm in the car, the better we'll get. I've known Larry (Woodward) a couple of years, and I appreciate him giving me the opportunity to stay out here. He just wants us to go out and have fun and try to win races. We're going to do the best we can."
