Wood to Drive Parsons' Casey's General Stores Car
URBANDALE, IA (November 26) -- Danny Wood drove a sprint car sponsored by the Hop & Sac convenience stores his first two years with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series. The 2000 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year award winner will continue racing for a convenience store chain when the series opens next season at Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA. Lonny Parsons announced he hired Wood to drive his #6 Casey's General Stores Maxim Monday. Wood, who won "A" Features at Lernerville Speedway, Port Royal Speedway and State Fair Speedway near his hometown of Norman, OK, last season, ranked 13th in the driver point standings. Parsons, whose car was driven by Brooke Tatnell and Johnny Herrera, finished 16th in the owner standings. "Johnny was pursuing other things, so I started looking at other drivers," Parsons said. "Danny is a great race car driver. He shows a lot of aggression all the time and wants to win. He also fits into what we look for as far as personality out of the race car. I think it's going to be a good mix." Parsons said he hopes to hire a crew by mid-December. He added that everything else with his team will stay the same. "I think this is going to be a great deal," Wood said. "I'm really excited. I wish we started racing again next week. As fate would have it, I passed Johnny for the win at Lernerville and in Oklahoma City. It's ironic how that worked out. Lonny told me, 'you sure made me mad a few times,' and I said, 'now that I'm on your side, maybe we can make some other people mad.'"
