Mark Kinser Wins Williams Grove Finale By Richard Day MECHANICSBURG, PA (August 4) - Mark Kinser moved into a tie with cousin Steve Kinser for the World of Outlaws' lead in "A" Feature victories Friday when he won at Williams Grove Speedway. Mark's 11th victory of the year, his first since the Valvoline Classic at Knoxville Raceway on June 24th, snapped a 17-event winless streak. As the fastest qualifier in the field for the second straight night, Kinser earned a spot in the Snap-on Tools Dash. His sixth-place finish in the five-lap race gave him the third row outside starting position in the "A" Feature. Snap-on Tools Dash winner Billy Pauch started the 30-lap main event on the pole and burst into the lead as the green flag fell. But before he completed the first lap, former Williams Grove track champion Donnie Kreitz, Jr., stopped in the second corner with a broken rear end. Pauch drove the #1Z Zemco Speed Equipment Maxim into the lead again when the race resumed. Preliminary Feature winner Dave Blaney attempted to take the lead in turn three late in the second lap, but was unable to complete the pass. Mark joined Jac Haudenschild and Steve Smith in their battle for third place two laps later, and dove into the fourth corner to pass "The Wild Child" late in lap five. Blaney chased Pauch during the race's early stages before steering #10 Vivarin J&J deep into the second corner to take the lead early in lap six. Seconds later, Haudenschild took the high road around Kinser in turn four to regain fourth place. Mark returned the favor the next time around, then raced into third with a second-corner pass of Smith early in the eighth lap. The leaders caught the backmarkers two laps later, but were taken out of lapped traffic the next time around when a flat right front tire forced Pauch to stop in the fourth corner. Mark started pressuring Blaney for the lead as soon as the green flag replaced the yellow. Steve Kinser, winner of 20 Skoal Outlaw Series main events at Williams Grove, passed Haudenschild early in the ninth lap, and raced into third place with a back-straightaway pass of Smith three laps later. Mark caught "The Buckeye Bullet" early in the 14th lap, and they raced wheel-to-wheel down the back stretch before Kinser took the lead with a low move into turn three. Mark opened a 10-car-length advantage within a lap, and increased his comfort zone to a half-straightaway by lap 18. Haudenschild, who dropped back into sixth during the race's middle stages, passed Smith and Jeff Swindell late in the 19th lap in his return to fourth place. Blaney closed to within 10 car-lengths of Mark as the leaders entered lapped traffic again with 10 laps remaining. Mark was afraid the #5M Wirtgen Maxim had run out of fuel when his engine started making a strange sound early in the 27th lap. He nursed his power plant during the final three laps, but still took the checkered flag with half of the front straightaway to spare. When asked about his pass for the lead, Mark said, "With these guys, when you get into the preferred line and get an advantage, you don't lift. That's the only way to race with the World of Outlaws, don't lift." Haudenschild steered the #22 Pennzoil Maxim high into the second corner to pass Steve Kinser for third place with five laps remaining. Rounding out the top 10 in the "A" Feature were Steve Smith, Swindell, Stevie Smith, 13th-starting Greg Hodnett, Andy Hillenburg and Lance DeWease. Keith Kauffman received the Wells Lamont Hard Charger Award for racing into 13th place from the 11th row. It was the first time Kauffman finished out of the top 10 since he started driving the #47 Casey's General Stores Maxim six events ago.
