SCHATZ, PARKERSTORE TEAM CONTINUE TO SIZZLE AT SUMMER NATIONALS
MECHANICSBURG, PA (July 21) - After last Saturday's win at the Kings Royal, defending World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz admitted he wanted to win all of the big money races. When he dominated Wednesday night's Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup, Schatz built his earnings in two races to $80,000. He added two more wins at the Cleveland Brothers Summer Nationals including Saturday night's $20,000 triumph at Williams Grove Speedway.
Schatz raced his No. 15 ParkerStore J&J with Shaver power into the lead at the start of the race and led all 30 laps in the non-stop race holding off Steve Kinser to score his 13th win of the season.
"It's great to win again here at Williams Grove," said Schatz after scoring his 12th career win at the legendary track and fourth in five starts. "We were fortunate tonight. Steve (Kinser) was better than us, but we got to the rubber early enough to keep him behind us. You take the wins any way you can get them and tonight was a total effort."
Schatz started the evening second overall in qualifying points following two nights of racing on Thursday and Friday night. He won the second heat race to earn the pole position in the Crane Cams Dash, but lost a cylinder during the six-lap race and was fortunate to finish second. His ParkerStore crew replaced the motor and made changes to the car with little time to spare.
"The guys did a great job tonight," continued Schatz. "We had a problem with the motor in the dash and everyone dug in and got the car ready for the feature. I wish the track wouldn't have taken rubber, but three nights on a track is tough. There are always good cars out here at Williams Grove, so we feel really good about winning two more races here."
The four wins this week give Schatz 81 career Outlaw wins (63 "A" features and 18 prelims), and he set himself apart from many of his competitors by taking the first three month of money races.
"We've said all along that we're not thinking about the point standings," continued Schatz, who has more than a 100-point advantage. "Winning races is all that matters. It's a huge accomplishment to win the Kings Royal, Silver Cup and Summer Nationals. Let alone to do it eight days. We've got an unbelievable team right now and we're clicking really well. We just have to figure out how to keep it going."
The action-packed week continues for the ParkerStore team on Sunday night. They'll travel to Lebanon Valley Speedway near Albany, NY, for a single night program. Schatz won the feature event at Lebanon last year and is a two-time winner at the track.
