VIRGINIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY READY FOR PAUL SAWYER MEMORIAL AND WORLD OF OUTLAWS SPRINT CARS.

Jamaica, VA -- Anticipation is running high with the track's biggest event of 2009 just under two weeks away. Officials at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway are busy getting the track ready and prepped for the Paul Sawyer Memorial to be held Saturday May 23rd. The Paul Sawyer Memorial will mark the second appearance of the nation's top sprint car division to the ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA and the only appearance by the series in the State of Virginia.

"We couldn't be more excited about the return of the Greatest Show on Dirt! These guys are the best in the business and will once again put on a tremendous race for our fans. This is a must see event," commented track General Manage Clarke Sawyer.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series point battle has been intense with three-time and defending series Champion Donny Schatz using his fifth win of the season this past weekend to take the lead over 20-time Outlaws Champion Steve Kinser by a mere 19 markers. With four events scheduled between now and May 23rd there is no telling who will be in control of the point battle when they hit the track for the $10,000 to win Paul Sawyer Memorial.

In last year's event Joey Saldana, currently third in points, set a new overall track record with a blistering 14.537 second lap in time trials. But it was Jason Meyers, currently fourth in points, holding Daryn Pittman off in the final laps to take home the inaugural victory.

This is your chance to also see former Outlaws Champions Danny Lasoski and Sammy Swindell; Craig Dollansky and the rest of the Outlaws. The best driver's in the country will be here, how about you?
