Lasoski on his win in the Duel in the Dakotas last week:
"First of all, I feel terrible for Steve and the Quaker State team," said Lasoski, referring to Kinser, who was leading the race when the car of Wade Nygaard flipped into Kinser - taking both drivers out of the race. "They had a strong car all weekend long.
"I know it's Donny's (Schatz) hometown and he won there last year," continued Lasoski, who held off several late attempts by Schatz to win another Duel in the Dakotas title, "but you have to spread the wealth around a little, too.
"My crew chief, Jimmy Carr, told me to bide my time from the start. He thought Steve would probably get the jump on me. I saw Donny down there in (turns) three and four, and I had no idea that I could run the bottom that well, but that's usually where I like to be. I probably should've tried to run the bottom a little sooner, but when you're leading and running in traffic, you just have to try to go where the other cars aren't.
"We won in J.D. Byrider country, and there were a lot of representatives up there in the stands. It was great to win it for them and all the people from North Dakota. We love going up there."
Team Owner Tony Stewart on Lasoski's most recent victory:
"I'm a firm believer in making your own luck, and that's just what Danny and the team did up in North Dakota. When Steve (Kinser) had his misfortune, they were ready to capitalize on it. That comes from showing up at the race track knowing that you've done everything you know to do to make yourself ready to win. I'm really proud of those guys. Their schedule is a grueling one, but they keep at it and they never quit. Wins like the Duel in the Dakotas are a great reward for them."
Nuts and Bolts.
Lasoski finished 10th in the IROC race held April 5 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. He is now tied for sixth in points with Sam Hornish of the Indy Racing League and Kevin Harvick of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. All three drivers trail point leader Kurt Busch by 24 points with two events remaining - July 12 at Chicagoland Speedway and August 2 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
