Tim Shaffer Injured In Hard Flip At Knoxville

Knoxville, Iowa -- June 24, 2006 -- A hard flip on the first lap of the World of Outlaws Sprint Series feature on Friday night at Knoxville Raceway left Tim Shaffer with a fractured vertebrae.

Shaffer, one of sprint car racing's top drivers who won earlier this season at Dodge City Raceway Park, was awake and alert when he was taken to a local hospital. He was later transferred to a Des Moines hospital, where family members joined him on Saturday morning. He could leave the hospital as early as tomorrow.

DIRT MotorSports and World of Outlaws officials will assist Shaffer's recovery in any way possible and look forward to seeing him back on a track as soon as he's ready to return to action.

"We never want to see any competitor become injured in a crash," said DIRT MotorSports President and CEO Tom Deery. "Tim Shaffer is one of the best sprint car racers out there and we hope his recovery process goes as smooth and quick as possible."
