Ted Johnson Sprint racing's most influential leader for 11th year

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (MARCH 1, 2001) - Pennzoil World of Outlaws (WoO) Series founder and president Ted Johnson has been named sprint car racing's most influential leader for the eleventh consecutive year, according to the voting panel of the National Sprint Car Poll. Ted garnered thirty-five (35) of the forty-nine (49) first place ballots cast by the select voting panel of non-winged, 360- and 410-cubic-inch sprint car racing media members, promoters, sanctioning officials and builder/manufacturers.

Ranked second in the special edition National Sprint Car Poll, which is an official awards program of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum, is Knoxville Raceway director of racing Ralph Capitani. "Cappy", who promotes the sport's 360-, 410-c.i. and 1200-pound National Championship events for the Marion County Fair Association, earned eight first place ballots. Rounding out the top five of the sport's most influential leaders are Bert Emick of the All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC), Ron Shuman of the Sprint Car Racing Association (SCRA) & Non-Winged World Championship (NWWC), and Earl Baltes of the world-famous Eldora Speedway, respectively. In addition to Shuman, other individuals that received one first place vote each are Emmett Hahn of the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS), WoO car owner Karl Kinser, TNN broadcasters Brad Doty and Dave Argabright, and Jerry Russell of Eagle Chassis.

Rounding out the top ten, respectively, are Hahn, defending WoO champion Steve Kinser, Karl Kinser, Bruton Smith of Speedway Motorsports, and Doty.

Those making their debut on the annual list are non-winged sprint car team owner Keith Kunz in 24th, The National Network (TNN) executive Brian Hughes in 27th, United Sprint Car Series (USCS) official Pete Walton in 29th, and United States Auto Club (USAC) non- winged sprint car coordinator Jason Smith in 30th, respectively.
