Tatnell Wins Australian Sprintcar Championship
Concord, NC--Feb. 18, 2007 -- After three strong runs to start off the World of Outlaws season during the Florida DIRTcar Nationals, including two Top-10 Finishes, Brooke Tatnell returned to his native land of Australia this weekend to defend his title in the Australian Sprintcar Championship.
On Sunday night at Latrobe Speedway in Latrobe, Tasmania, the native of San Souci, NSW claimed the victory in the 50-lap event. He lined up third, and by the second lap was in the lead and stayed out front the rest of the way. Tatnell withstood a couple of cautions and used strong restarts each time to pull away and dominate the event.
Tatnell, began the night by competing in two of the eight heat races that were contested on the final night of the three-day event. He won the ninth heat, and came home fifth in the 13th heat. By virtue of the points earned in time trials and the four heat races he competed in over the course of the event, Tatnell earned the third starting spot in the A-Feature.
On Saturday night, the always affable driver was second in the preliminary feature. He began the night by finishing third in the third heat and was second in the seventh heat.
On the first night of the event, Tatnell turned in the sixth fastest lap in time trials of the 43 cars that took to the track.
The win on Sunday was the third in-a-row in the Australian Sprintcar Championship for Tatnell, who also is a five-time World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Champion Down Under. With the win, Tatnell retains the right to use the coveted number"A1" on his car in Australia.
Tantell returns to action with the World of Outlaws on February 23-24 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California. He is currently eight overall in championship points driving for Larry Woodward Racing.
