Swindell to return to Outlaws at Eagle Nationals.
EAGLE, NE (June 18) -- Sammy Swindell will return to the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series at this weekend's 19th Annual Eagle Nationals at Eagle Raceway.
The series' three-time champion raced in the series' first three events of the season in Dennis Roth's #83jr Beef Packers Eagle, racing into the top 10 in each main event. Swindell was also the runner-up in both preliminary features at the Silver State Shootout at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Eagle Nationals is the series' second triple-program event of the season, running Thursday through Saturday.
"I've been really busy racing with (son) Kevin every weekend," Swindell said from his shop in Cordova, TN, Tuesday. "He's doing really good. We have a couple of karts he races with the WKA (World Karting Association) and we also have a mini-sprint. Some places don't want kids his age to race mini-sprints until they're 14, so we have a year to go there. He's won eight or nine races already this year."
The proud father is eager to return to the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series.
"I'm looking forward to coming back and racing," Swindell said. "It's going to be a challenge to come back out and get going.
"We put this deal together to race the first part of the year. We ran those five races and now we're going to run most of the races between this weekend and the (Mopar Parts) Knoxville Nationals. We're going to run some more out in California, too. We've run some out there some already. We want to be organized when we come back because we're going to be pretty busy the next couple of months."
Glenn Stewart, who has worked with Swindell for many years, will join the Beef Packers crew to help maintain the #83jr.
Swindell finished sixth in last weekend's Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA, behind Kasey Kahne, Steve Kent, Brent Kaeding, Jason Meyers and Jason Statler.
Swindell was the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series champion in 1981, 1982 and 1997. He has won 257 Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series "A" Features in his career, including two at Eagle Raceway.
