Mark Kinser Snaps Winless Streak at State Fair By Richard Day SEDALIA, MO (July 24) - Mark Kinser felt as if the weight of the world was lifted from his shoulders Friday when he won the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series "A" Feature at State Fair Motor Speedway. Mark's sixth victory of the season ended an 18-race winless streak, the longest of father Karl Kinser's outstanding Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series career. "We've struggled a bit here lately, as everybody probably knows," Mark said. "My dad, Jamie (Adrian) and Dennis (Kohler) gave me a really good car tonight. Those guys have really been working to try to get us straightened out." Kinser opened the 40th event of the World of Outlaws' 20th Anniversary Season by earning his 11th Vivarin Fast-Time Award. His 16.643-second, 108.154-m.p.h., lap around the semi-banked, 1/2-mile oval was .068 seconds faster than the standard he set at State Fair Motor Speedway May 8th. Mark earned the right to start the 30-lap main event inside the third row by following Andy Hillenburg, Johnny Herrera, Danny Lasoski and Craig Dollansky across the finish line in the Channellock Dash. Hillenburg, who won his seventh Channellock Dash of the year, burst into the lead as the green flag fell in the "A" Feature. Kinser steered the #5M Wirtgen Maxim into the low groove between the first and second corners to pass Dollansky for fourth place early in lap four. Hillenburg was two car-lengths ahead of his closest pursuers when he entered lapped traffic seven laps into the race. Herrera, Lasoski and Kinser were nose-to-tail throughout the seventh lap, then raced three-abreast through turns three and four the next time around. Mark used a pair of inside moves to take over second place during the next two laps, passing Lasoski in the second corner and racing past Herrera between turns three and four late in the 10th lap. "The Dude" followed Kinser past Herrera for third. Kinser took the lead midway through the race, steering the #5M to the lowest point between the third and fourth corners to pass Hillenburg. "B" Feature winner Scott Whitworth stopped on the front stretch with mechanical problems early in the 16th lap. Pennzoil World of Outlaw Series points leader Steve Kinser exchanged fourth place with Herrera within a lap after the green flag replaced the yellow. Mark was building a comfortable advantage when Lasoski and "The King of the Outlaws" raced past Hillenburg in the low groove between turns three and four late in lap 18. Kinser was a half-straightaway ahead of Lasoski when he caught the backmarkers again four laps later. "The Dude" narrowed the gap in dense traffic by the 26th lap, and was only a car- length behind with 3 1/2 laps remaining. Lasoski was threatening to take the lead the next time around when Mark executed a daring move. After passing Dollansky deep in turn two, he slid in front of Craig as Lasoski battled to keep pace. The move enabled Kinser to open an eight-car-length lead. "The Dude" narrowed the gap during the final lap, but was three car-lengths behind when Kinser took the checkered flag. The runner-up run was Lasoski's second in as many races. "The first part of the race was tough," Mark said. "We had some good cars to get by, but I think we're a little better than most in traffic." The $7,000 victory pushed Kinser to within 50 points of cousin Steve in the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series standings. Steve finished third, ahead of Herrera, Hillenburg, 15th- starting Jeff Swindell, Jac Haudenschild, Sammy Swindell, Stevie Smith and Tyler Walker. Sammy's #1 Channellock Stealth suffered broken rear end gears early in the First Racing Champions Heat Race. His last-place finish cost him a position in the Channellock Dash. He qualified for the main event by finishing fourth in the "B" Feature, then passed two cars to finish eighth in the "A" Feature. A blown engine in the #11H Vivarin Eagle during the First Racing Champions Heat Race put Greg Hodnett in the "B" Feature. He finished fifth, but received a starting position in the main event when Jaymie Moyle was unable to take the green flag. Brooke Tatnell drove his #7K Racing Eclipse sprinter past nine cars to finish 14th in the "A" Feature.
