Vegas a Good Stop for Shane Stewart
from Rudeen Racing powered by mIn Motorsports, OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 15, 2005) -- Following a pair of top-six finishes in World of Outlaws action at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this past weekend, Shane Stewart and the Rudeen Racing powered by mIn Motorsports No. 26 Sprint Car team make their way to the nation's midsection this weekend for the series' only stops in Mississippi and Texas.
With a runner-up finish in the Thursday night preliminary and a sixth place run in Friday's Vegas finale, Shane climbed a notch to ninth in World of Outlaws points and solidified his lead in the Rookie of the Year chase.
Shane kicked off the weekend by stopping the clocks eighth-quick in the HRP Wings/Schoenfeld Headers machine, then advanced to Thursday night's dash with a third place heat race finish. A second place finish in the Dash put Shane and the Brodix/Banshee Graphics machine outside the second row for the 25-lap preliminary feature.
Shane established a solid lock on third place in the early going, then moved up a slot when early leader Sammy Swindell exited to the pit area midway through. Shane made several runs at eventual winner Kraig Kinser but rather than force the issue in a preliminary feature, settled for a second place finish in the Wesmar-powered Maxim and an automatic starting berth in Friday night's Dash.
Starting in the preferred outside line on Friday night, Shane grabbed the lead early at the outset in the Dash and checked out on the field to earn the pole position for the $12,000-to-win main event.
Starting on the pole of the 35-lapper proved to be a disadvantage however, as Shane lost several spots before getting up to speed on the half-mile clay oval. Shane hung tough among the lead crowd all the way throughout however to ultimately cross the stripe sixth in the XYZ Machining/Car & Fleet Auto mount.
With this past weekend's pair of strong outings, Shane and the Rudeen Development team have recorded three consecutive top-ten feature finishes and have been among the top ten in five of seven features thus far in 2005.
Next up is Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, MS, on Friday night, with Houston Raceway Park to follow on Saturday night, a pair of three-eighths mile ovals that Shane has fared well at in the past. Shane scored a tenth place finish in his last visit to Pike County Speedway in March of 2003, then ran fourth the next night at Houston Raceway Park.
After this weekend's swing through Mississippi and Texas, Shane and the balance of the No. 26 Sprint Car team, including co-crew chiefs Eric Manfrass and Bob Curtis and Team Manager Scott Chilcutt, get a rare weekend off before returning to action on April 1 at Batesville (AR) Speedway and April 2 at I-55 Speedway in Pevely, MO.
