Schatz Extends Lead in World of Outlaws Championship Standings: Five Races Remain
Concord, NC-- October 13, 2008--Donny Schatz used his series leading 16th A-Feature win of the season on Sunday night at Hollywood Hills Speedway in New Mexico to extend his lead in the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship standings to 138 points over Jason Meyers with five races remaining on the 2008 schedule. Schatz leads the series with 55 Top-10 finishes in 58 A-Feature events as he closes in on his third consecutive series title. He also earned five bonus points at Hollywood Hills for setting fast time in qualifying.
Meyers finished fifth on Sunday night to earn his series-best 45th Top-Five finish. The California native also leads the series in laps led and fast time honors in time trials. He has 51 Top-10 finishes on the year.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, finishing fourth on Sunday night to move into the third spot in points, just one marker ahead of Joey Saldana. The native of Bloomington, Indiana has 43 Top-10 finishes this season, with 30 of those being Top-Five performances.
Saldana finished 10th at Hollywood Hills to pick up his 43rd Top-10 of the season. He is just one marker behind Kinser as the pair battles for the third spot in the standings. Saldana has won five times this season driving for Kasey Kahne Racing
Jac Haudenschild used a runner-up finish at Hollywood Hills to move into fifth in points, on the strength of 43 Top-10 finishes, with 19 of those being Top-Fives. He has won four times this season for the Carnahan Motorsports team.
Craig Dollansky, who is recovering from an arm injury sustained at Eldora Speedway on September 19th, is currently sixth in points.
Kerry Madsen, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year remains seventh in points, on the strength of 36 Top-10 finishes as he chases his first win of the year.
Chad Kemenah was eighth on Sunday night and moved to within three points of Madsen as they continue their season long battle for the seventh spot in the championship standings. Kemenah has racked up 36 Top-10 finishes this season.
Terry McCarl earned his fourth consecutive Top-Five finish on Sunday night with a third-place performance. He has eight straight Top-10 finishes and is solidly in the ninth spot in points.
Daryn Pittman was sixth at Hollywood Hills to score his 30th Top-10 of the season. The native of Owasso, Oklahoma remains 10th in points.
Kraig Kinser remains 11th in points, just four markers ahead of Sam Hafertepe Jr., with Jason Sides who finished ninth on Sunday night just 60 points behind Hafertepe, as the trio battles for the 11th spot.
