Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series News & Notes
Concord, NC-- August 4, 2008--The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws sprint car series heads west to complete busy month of August, beginning on Tuesday, August 12 at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, North Dakota for an event which was postponed by rain earlier this season. The series then heads to Gillette Thunder Speedway in Wyoming before a return to North Dakota to wrap up the Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour at Dacotah Speedway in Mandan and Nodak Speedway in Mandan. The mini-series is comprised of the four events in the state of North Dakota this year. The series then makes a return visit to Billings Motorsports Park in Montana, before heading to Canada for a two-day event at Castrol Raceway, followed by two days at Skagit Speedway in Washington.
First Time Visit: The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will visit two tracks for the first time this month, when they visit Gillette Thunder Speedway and Dactoah Speedway. The race at Dacotah Speedway will be the first sprint car race at the high-banked 3/8-mile since 2005. The event at Gillette will be the fourth visit to the state of Wyoming for the series with three drivers have picked up wins at Sweetwater Speedway in the late 1990's. The events will be the third and fourth new venues the series will visit this season, with a total of six inaugural races on the 2008 schedule.
Adding to the Record Books: Tony Bruce Jr., added his name to the record books on July 30, when he won his first career World of Outlaws event at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. A total of 101 drivers have won at least one A-Feature event with the series dating back to 1978. Of the 17 drivers currently competing full-time with the World of Outlaws, 15 have won an A-Feature event with the series.
TV Time: The next scheduled Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event on SPEED will be September at 1 p.m. Eastern, with a broadcast of the Knight Before the Kings Royal from Royal from Eldora Speedway, with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event from Eldora Speedway immediately airing after the sprint race. The next three events on SPEED for the World of Outlaws will feature the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. First up will be an event from Deer Creek Speedway in Minnesota airing on August 16, followed on August 23 with the Firecracker from Lernerville Speedway in Pennsylvania and on August 31 the event from Sharon Speedway, which was part of the recently completed Alltel Ohio Speedweek will be broadcast. The World of Outlaws Sprint Series will return LIVE on SPEED on September 27 with the finale of the National Open from Williams Grove Speedway, with the season wrapping up LIVE on SPEED with the Vault World Finals on November 1.
Penalty Issued: Steve Kinser has been fined $1,000 and placed on probation until the end of the season for verbal and physical abuse of an Official at the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway on July 13.
Intense Racing: There have been 10 different drivers win A-Feature events with the World of Outlaws this season, led by Donny Schatz who has 12 victories, followed by Craig Dollansky's seven triumphs and Jason Meyers' six wins. A total of 18 drivers have led laps in A-Feature events in 2008, while 19 drivers have won a Crane Cams Dash to earn a pole position. Also, 15 drivers have stopped the clocks first in time trials, with six new track records being established.
Cybercast Schedule: DIRTVISION.com will feature live steaming video from the 55th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. All the action will be covered LIVE from September 4-6, including the $50,000 to-win 40-lap A-Feature.
