World of Outlaws Preview: Boot Hill Showdown at Dodge City Raceway Park
Dodge City, KS--June 10, 2009--A showdown in the Old West is on tap this weekend as the World of Outlaws roll into Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas for the annual Boot Hill Showdown. The cameras from SPEED will be on hand both nights to capture all of the action for future broadcast.
Leading the way will be three-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz, who picked up his seventh win of the 2009 campaign last weekend and was victorious in the finale at Dodge City Raceway Park last season. The North Dakota native is the current track record holder at the 3/8-mile, a mark he set in 2005.
Joey Saldana, who also won at Dodge City last season, leads the World of Outlaws with eight A-Feature wins this season, including one last weekend in his home state of Indiana. Each of his eight wins have come at different tracks and he is one of three drivers that has been victorious on a 3/8-mile this season. The native of Brownsburg, Indiana is the only driver that has won two A-Feature events with the series at the track in the five previous years the series has competed there.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion, heads to Dodge City second in the championship standings on the strength of a series-best 21 Top-10 finishes. He was victorious at Dodge City in the series debut at the state-of-the-art facility back in 2004.
Jason Meyers, who is fourth in points, is also a former winner at Dodge City, taking the checkered flag in 2007. Danny Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws champion was victorious twice at the track in 2005, with the finale being an A-Feature triumph, while the opener was a preliminary feature.

On the podium: Joey Saldana finished on the podium in both World of Outlaws events at Dodge City last season including picking up a win in the finale of the Boot Hill Showdown. Dating back to his first win at the track in 2006 he has finished third or better in four of his last five starts at the track. He leads the World of Outlaws with eight wins this season including one last weekend in his home state of Indiana. He is currently fourth in the championship standings just eight points out of the second spot.
"We've been pretty fortunate there," said Saldana of Dodge City. "We won a race there in '06 and again last year. It's a great facility and it's neat that there is a facility that nice in the middle of Kansas. That's the type or facility I wish we had all over the United States. That's why we look forward to going to Dodge City."
Fast in the Old West: Donny Schatz, the three-time and defending World of Outlaws champion picked up his first career win at Dodge City Raceway Park last season. The North Dakota native has seven Top-10 finishes at the track in eight career starts. He is the current series point leader and has won seven times this season, including for the first time in his career last weekend in Indiana. The North Dakota native is the current track record hold at Dodge City Raceway Park.
"Doing something the first time is always the toughest," noted Schatz of earning his first win at Dodge City last year. "We've qualified well there for quite some time, so we knew we were fast. It just took putting it all together. Last year, we could either follow the leader and be satisfied with second or take a chance at winning. The chance paid off and it's what I'll do again. I've lost a few races because of that mentality, but I've won way more because of it. Now that we've won at Dodge City, we'll let it all hang out and try to do it again."
Ready to race: Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion, won in his first-ever start at Dodge City in 2004 and has finished ninth or better in all nine of his career starts at the track. He has 11 career wins in the state of Kansas with the first of those coming back in 1978. He is currently second in the series championship standings on the strength of a series leading 21 Top-10 finishes with 14 of those being Top-Five performances.
Visiting victory lane: Jason Meyers won for the first time at Dodge City in 2007. He has seven career Top-10 finishes at the track in nine starts. He was third and eighth last season. He won earlier this season on a 3/8-mile track at Paducah International Raceway in Kentucky. He is currently third in points, just two markers behind Steve Kinser.
"Everyone on this team is doing a great job," said Meyers recently. "My guys keep working hard and we keep getting better and better every day. We're getting closer and if you run second and third, you'll win the races you need to win."
Oh so close: Craig Dollansky led seven laps last season at Dodge City en route to finishing second. In his career he has finished ninth or better at the track in seven of his nine starts there. He is currently fifth in points this season on the strength of 17 Top-10 finishes as he looks for his first win since joining Kasey Kahne Racing.
Consistency is key: Jason Sides has been one of the most consistent drivers this season with the World of Outlaw. In his career at Dodge City, he has a couple of Top-10 finishes. The 2003 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner is sixth in points on the strength of 16 Top-10 finishes this season. He is just 13 markers out of the Top-Five in the standings. He finished in the Top-Five both nights last weekend.
Looking to keep the streak alive: Danny Lasoski has finished ninth or better in all seven of his career starts at Dodge City. He was victorious twice at the track in 2005 winning an A-Feature and a preliminary feature. He last competed at the track in 2007 finishing seventh and eighth. The 2001 series champion has led 56 laps in his career at Dodge City in feature events, which is tied for the most ever with Daryn Pittman.
"I'm definitely looking forward to going to Dodge City," he noted. "That is such a nice facility and with it being a TV race that adds even more to it. I've run well there in the past and won, so I am looking forward to racing there for Lonnie Parsons and this team."
Running up front: Jac Haudenschild has only made a handful of starts in his career at Dodge City, but has four Top-10 finishes in those events. He was fifth and seventh at the track last season in his first year diving for the Carnahan Motorsports team. The recent inductee into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame is eighth in points this season on the strength of 10 Top-10 finishes.
Strong showing: Kraig Kinser made his debut at Dodge City Raceway Park in 2004, finishing fourth in that event. He picked up his third career Top-10 finish at the track last season, in his first year driving for Tony Stewart Racing. He was a career-best second in 2005 in the opener, leading the first 21 laps of that event. He picked up his 11th Top-10 of the season last weekend in his home state of Indiana.
"Dodge City is a really nice facility and we've seen races there be on the high side, low groove and through the middle," he noted. "It's about being in the right place at the right time. Our consistency in qualifying has continued to keep us in a position to be competitive and we'll need that again this weekend."
It's been a few years: Lucas Wolfe will make his first start at Dodge City since the 2006 season this weekend. He finished 10th in his last start at the track. The native of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania earned his fourth Top-10 finish of the season last weekend, as he continues his sophomore season with the World of Outlaws.

He was second quickest in time trials both nights there last year. He has three Top-10 finishes this season and is just outside of the Top-10 in points.
First timer: Brian Ellenberger, who is a contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award this season, will make his first trip to Dodge City this weekend. The native of Butler, Pennsylvania has raced in the state of Kansas on a couple of occasions during the annual Thunder in the Plains with the All Stars and finished third and seventh in a pair of events last season in the Jayhawk state.
