Strong Weekend Helps Schatz Maintain World of Outlaws Championship Point Lead
Concord, NC-- June 15, 2008--Donny Schatz used a runner-up finish on Friday night at Huset's Speedway and a fourth-place finish on Saturday night at Eagle Raceway to remain atop the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship standings. The two-time defending series champion is the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in all 20 events this season. He has a 43-point advantage over Jason Meyers.
Meyers finished third in both of the last two events, and leads the series with 17 Top-Five finishes, as he continues to chase his first Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series title. The native of Clovis, California has five A-Feature wins this season and is one of just three drivers that has led more than 100 laps of A-Feature competition.
Craig Dollansky won both events over the weekend to gain a few points on the two leaders and also distance himself from four-place Joey Saldana. Dollansky has four A-Feature wins and 19 Top-10 finishes in 20 starts this year. He is just 43 markers out of the second spot in the standings.
Joey Saldana racked up two more Top-10 finishes at Huset's Speedway and Eagle Raceway to bring his season total to 17. He has 10 Top-Five finishes as he continues to close in on his first A-Feature win of the season.
Jac Haudenschild was fourth at Huset's Speedway on Friday night and seventh last night at Eagle Raceway to pick up 12th and 13th Top-10 finishes of the year. He too continues to close in on his first win of the 2008 campaign.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion used a runner-up performance in the Eagle Nationals to close to within just six points of Haudenschild in the standings. The native of Bloomington, Indiana has 10 Top-10 finishes this season, with six of those being in the Top-Five.
Kerry Madsen picked up two more Top-10 finishes over the weekend and now has 14 Top-10's this season. He is just 35 points out of the Top-Five.
Chad Kemenah was fifth at Huset's Speedway to earn his third Top-Five finish of the year as he remains eighth in points.
Shane Stewart finished fifth at Eagle Raceway and sixth at Huset's to move to within 10 points of Kemenah. The 2005 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has eight Top-Five finishes this season.
Terry McCarl also picked up two Top-10 finishes over the weekend as he remains 10th in points.
Daryn Pittman and Sam Hafertepe Jr. are just outside of the Top-10, as each earned a Top-10 finish over the weekend.
Kraig Kinser earned the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award on Saturday night. He is currently 13th in points as he continues his first season behind the wheel for Tony Stewart Racing.
Jason Sides finished eighth on Friday night at Huset's Speedway, and is just 12 points behind Kraig Kinser in the standings. Tim Shaffer is just 22 points behind Sides as the trio all closes in on the Top-10 in points.
Lucas Wolfe, who was the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award, is currently 16th in points, despite being out indefinitely with a fractured T-4 Vertebrae in his back.
Sophomore drivers Tony Bruce Jr. and Chad Hillier are 17th and 18th in points respectively. Each has one Top-10 finish through action on June 14.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21 at Dodge City Raceway Park in the Boothill Showdown. Both nights of racing will be taped by SPEED for future broadcast.
