Paul McMahan to Rejoin Mopar Team By Richard Day NICHOLASVILLE, KY (July 8) - Paul McMahan, the runner-up in the 1997 Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series Rookie of the Year race, is returning to Gary Stanton's Mopar team. McMahan drove the #75 Mopar Maxim during the final six months of the 1997 season. He succeeds Craig Dollansky, who left recently after taking over for Garry Brazier early this year. "Paul and the rest of my new team will here this weekend and we'll be ready for the Kings Royal (July 17-18)," Stanton said Wednesday. "When Craig left, I had to hire all new people. Jim Case, who was with me all last year, will be back, and I've hired Randy Weiss as a helper. I'm going to be the crew chief for a few races until we figure out who the new crew chief will be. "I always thought of Paul as a good racer. He just got hurt a couple of times last year, then he came on after the (Amoco Knoxville) Nationals. "Paul has a good attitude now. He's already gone through a tough rookie season, so he's not expecting to run in the top five every night like so many guys who come into this series." McMahan and Donny Schatz exchanged the Rookie of the Year points lead five times last season. He recorded 13 top-10 finishes, including a ninth-place run at the Amoco Knoxville Nationals and a seventh in the Gold Cup Race of Champions. "I'm looking forward to coming back to race with the World of Outlaws," McMahan said. "I got hurt - banged up my neck and broke my hand - last year and had a few other nicks and bruises to my ego. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain now." McMahan was racing with California's Northern Auto Racing Club before reuniting with Stanton's Mopar team. WoO
