Missouri High Banked Nationals Up Next for World of Outlaws
High banks and high speeds are in store for the World of Outlaws in Second Annual Missouri High Banked Nationals at the blazing fast U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Missouri on Friday, May 11.
Last season in the series inaugural visit to the track, seven drivers turned sub-10 second laps, led by Paul McMahan's new track record of 9.846 seconds at a blistering 120.658 miles per hour.
In the debut of the event, Jac Haudenschild used his trademark rim riding style to capture the win, which was the first World of Outlaws A-Feature win for his car owner Rick Wright, a native of California. The fan favorite from Wooster, Ohio won the first heat and followed that up with a win in the Crane Cams Dash to start on the pole in the 40-lap event, where he took the lead on the eighth circuit, and led the rest of the way. He enters the event this year, 10th in the championship standings on the strength of seven Top-10 finishes.
Donny Schatz the reigning World of Outlaws champion enters the event on Friday, May 11 atop the championships standings on the strength of four wins, and 15 Top-10 finishes in the first 17 events of the season. The native of Fargo, North Dakota was second fastest in time trials last season at U.S. 36 Raceway, before a mechanical failure ended his night in the A-Feature.
Joey Saldana trails Schatz by just nine makers in the standings heading into the Missouri High Banked Nationals. The native of Brownsburg, Indiana has won a series-best five A-Feature evens this season and has led 153 laps. He also has been quickest in time trials on four occasions, in addition to winning one Crane Cams Dash to earn a pole position. Last season at U.S. 36 Raceway, he finished just outside the Top-10.
Daryn Pittman heads into the weekend with plenty of momentum after earning his second A-Feature win of the season last Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway. The former World of Outlaws Gumout Series titlist is currently third in the championship standings, on the strength of 13 Top-10 finishes. In his first visit to the high banks of U.S. 36 Raceway last season, he turned in the third fastest lap in time trials and came home sixth in the A-Feature.
Craig Dollansky finished second last season in his first race at U.S. 36 Raceway. The native of Elk River, Minnesota currently is fourth in World of Outlaws points, as he chases his first win of the season. He turned in a very solid run last weekend at Riverside International Speedway charging the from the 27th starting spot to finish ninth, to earn his 12th Top-10 finish of the season.
Danny Lasoski who hails from the Show-Me State of Missouri heads to U.S. 36 Raceway fifth in points on the strength of 11 Top-10 finishes. The native of Dover, Missouri won his first race of the season and 75th of his World of Outlaws career on April 6 at Paducah International Raceway.
Jason Meyers will make his first career start at U.S. 36 Raceway in the Missouri High Banked Nationals. The native of Clovis, California has been one of the most consistent drivers over the last month with the World of Outlaws. He earned his first win of the year on April 13 at Eldora Speedway in an event that can be seen on SPEED on Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m. Eastern. He has seven straight Top-10 finishes, with four of those being in the Top-Five. He is currently sixth in the standings as he chases his first series title.
Steve Kinser will make his first start at U.S. 36 Raceway on Friday, May 11. The 20-time World of Outlaws champion has won twice this season and is seventh in points, with 10 Top-10 finishes. He finished third last weekend in the series return to Riverside International Speedway in Arkansas.
Terry McCarl finished third last year in the Missouri High Banked Nationals. He was sixth quickest in time trials, and came up just one spot short of transferring to the A-Feature through his heat race, and won the B-Main to race his way into the A-Feature. The native of Altoona, Iowa won at U.S. 36 Raceway in 2002. Last weekend he earned his 11th Top-10 finish of the season.
Jason Solwold continues to run strong as he seeks his first win of the season with the World of Outlaws. The native of Mt. Vernon, Washington finished second last weekend and has nine Top-10 finishes on the year. He won his first Crane Cams Dash as well last Saturday night to earn his first pole position of the season. This came after he set a new track record in time trials, followed by a win in his heat race. He is currently ninth in the championship standings.
Paul McMahan looks to build on his success at U.S. 36 Raceway this week. After setting the new track record last season, he went on to finish fifth in the A-Feature, driving for two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart. The native of Nashville is just six points out of the Top-10 in points and has six Top-10 finishes on the year.
Jason Sides will make his first visit with the World of Outlaws to the high banks on Friday night. The native of Bartlett, Tennessee is just 34 points out of the Top-10, with seven Top-10 finishes on the season.
Tim Shaffer competed last season in the inaugural Missouri High Banked Nationals and finished a very solid seventh. The native of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania currently has eight Top-10 finishes on the season, with six of those being in the Top-Five.
Tim Kaeding will fill in again this weekend for Brooke Tatnell who returned home last week to be with his father George who continues his courageous battle with cancer. Kaeding finished 10th last weekend in his first race behind the wheel for Woodward Racing. The third generation sprint car star won earlier this season in his home state of California at Thunderbowl Raceway.
Justin Henderson ran very strong at U.S. 36 Raceway last season. He was the eighth quickest in time trials and finished just outside of the Top-10 in the A-Feature. He led laps earlier this season at the famed Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix and currently has five Top-10 finishes.
Also in action on Friday night will be Randy Hannagan, who won a heat race last season at U.S. 36 Raceway in the inaugural Missouri High Banked Nationals, as well as Chad Kemenah the reigning World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, who finished fourth last season at U.S. 36 Raceway.
Second-year driver Jeremy Campbell won a heat race at the track last season en route to a solid finish. Veteran Dion Hindi of New Mexico had a very solid night in his first visit to the track in 2006, as he was just outside the Top-10. Jason Martin made his first World of Outlaws start of 2006 at U.S. 36 Raceway, after suffering injuries the night before the season opener in Florida in February. Veteran Brian Carlson of Indiana was the 10th quickest in time trials at the Missouri High Banked National last season.
Five drivers that are currently battling for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award will be in action including: Tony Bruce Jr. of Kansas who competed in the Missouri High Banked Nationals last season, Zach Chappell of Oklahoma who has raced at U.S. 36 Raceway in a 360-sprint car, Sam Hafertepe Jr. of Texas who also has run a 360-sprint car at the track, Chad Hillier of Washington, and current rookie leader Kerry Madsen, a native of Australia, who raced at the track last season.
The event brought to the fans by St, Joseph Cablevision - TV 2 ,St. Joe Harley Davidson, Anderson Ford, Budweiser Racing and From in the Grave Tattoos, will the be series only visit this season the track.
There will be a meet and greet at St. Joe Harley-Davison on Wednesday, May 9 from Noon- 6 p.m. with Terry McCarl, driver of the Big Game Treestands Eagle. Also, World of Outlaws drivers will meet with fans at the U.S. 36 Dragstrip on Wednesday, evening during the weekly drag racing program at the track from 6-10 p.m..
