World of Outlaws Championship Battle Will Go Through Arizona
Barberville, FL -- Feb. 16, 2006 -- The World of Outlaws Sprint Series already was set to compete March 3-4 in Arizona, now DIRT MotorSports and SLS Promotions are excited to announce the Mean 15 racers will return in the fall for the $103,200 Outlaw Desert Classic, setting the stage for the final championship battle.
As in March, the World of Outlaws Sprint Series will race back-to-back on Friday and Saturday nights in the Copper State. On Oct. 20, the Mean 15 racers will invade Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix followed Oct. 21 by the conclusion of the Outlaw Desert Classic at USA Race Park in Tucson. The events in Arizona mark the final two features before the championship weekend at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Also, three-time World of Outlaws champion Sammy Swindell in the Guy Forbrook-owned Volcano Joe's/Wirtgen/Jackpot Junction Casino Maxim is slated to compete with the Outlaws on March 3 in the Cactus Classic at Manzanita Speedway as well as March 4 at USA Race Park, March 9-10 in the Las Vegas World of Outlaws Nationals at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, May 5 in the Missouri High-Bank Nationals at U.S. 36 Raceway and May 6 in the Wichita Twister Showdown at 81 Speedway.
When the World of Outlaws Sprint Series returns March 3 to Manzanita for the Cactus Classic, it will mark the 19th World of Outlaws feature event at the facility where Mean 15 racer Jac Haudenschild established a track record in 1997 with a lap around the half-mile oval in 15.34 seconds. Manzanita was one of the original tracks on the World of Outlaws schedule in 1978.
The Mean 15 racers will make their inaugural appearance at USA Race Park in Tucson on March 4, with both Arizona events in March being televised by The Outdoor Channel. The Arizona-based SCOA series also will join events in March at Manzanita and USA Race Park, as will the Arizona Midget Racing Association.
