MARK KINSER WINS WORLD OF OUTLAWS FINAL AT LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY, 2/28/98 Mark Kinser of Oolitic, Indiana made it two for two in features this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a convincing wins over Johnny Herrera, who was fourth in the prelim and second on tonight. At the start, Sammy Swindell took a wild, wide, and wooly approach to the starting line and nearly passed Mark Kinser and Jac Haudenschild before they got to the flagman. Fortunately the pros at the front were able to avoid collision but mishaps were occurring, and one, Bobby McMahon lost a wheel causing a yellow with four laps in. Andy Hillenberg took a spinner in turn 3 when the green came out for only one lap during which Johnny Herrera took the point from leader Mark Kinser. From that point on it was green all the way to the end. Mark Kinser moved to the lead by lap ten and, just as he did the evening previous, was absolutely in command and unchallenged. Johnny Herrera had another good night in the Sonner 47 and, although he appeared to have something for Mark, it wasn't enough to mount a challenge. The Black Bandit Stevie Smith managed a pass on Steve Kinser with five to go and came home third. Kinser finished fourth. Improving Greg Hodnett was fifth followed by Joe Gaerte, Andy Hillenberg, Brent Kaeding, Craig Dollansky and Terry McCarl. Heat race transfers to the A-Main were Brent Kaeding, Stevie Smith, Randy Hannagan, and Joe Gaerte in heat one. Heat two qualified Andy Hillenberg, Danny Lasoski, Sammy Swindell, and Donnie Schatz. Craig Dollansky, Shawn Penn, Greg Hodnett and Aussie Garry Brazier advanced in heat three. And 14 time WOO king Steve Kinser, Larry Neighbors, another Aussie Peter Murphy and Tyler Walker made it in Heat 4. Out of the 19 car C-Main only two drivers could advance and even then only to the back of the B Main. They turned out to be Jason Meyers and Calvin Landis. Space in the pits was growing rapidly. The 12 lap B Main presented opportunities for the last four A Main qualifiers. Jeff Swindell fought off a determined Scott Whitworth for the win with Bobby McMahon taking third ahead of Terry McCarl while sixteen more contenders loaded for the long drive to Woodstock, Georgia, the next WOO points race, next Saturday night. The Channelock Dash gave the top machines a warmup and Mark Kinser easily won that event followed by Jac Haudenschild, Johnny Herrera, Sammy Swindell, Dale Blaney, and Joe Gaerte. The Feature Summary: 1. Mark Kinser, 2. Johnny Herrera, 3. Stevie Smith, 4. Steve Kinser, 5. Greg Hodnett, 6. Joe Gaerte, 7. Andy Hillenberg, 8. Brent Kaeding, 9. Craig Dollansky, 10.
