Tatnell Drives Rush Racing Into The Mean 15
Sarver, PA -- July 20, 2005 -- Brooke Tatnell and his Rush Racing team led from flag-to-flag in the World of Outlaws Sprint Series March to the Mean 15, clinching the final spot in the elite group of sprint car racers Tuesday night in the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway.
The March featured Tatnell, Terry McCarl, Shane Stewart and Jason Solwold in a five-race battle to earn a spot in the Mean 15 that opened when owner Rick Wright pulled his car off the circuit after it struggled through the first half of the season with four different drivers.
By winning the March, Rush Racing's status within the series will be upgraded, which includes increased financial support for traveling from event to event.
The four drivers opened the March July 8 at Route 66 Raceway with all four finishing in the top 10. In the next event July 9 at I-55 Raceway, Stewart led the most laps as Tatnell and Solwold raced to top-five finishes. In the third event July 13 at Attica Raceway Park, Tatnell took charge of the March with a runner-up finish on a night that all of the Outlaws struggled. The fourth event was July 15 at Eldora Speedway, where Tatnell built his advantage with a sixth-place run setting the stage for the finale Tuesday night at Lernerville. McCarl surged past Randy Hannagan at the flag to finish fourth in the Silver Cup and slice 20 points off of Tatnell's lead, but it wasn't enough.
In the end, Tatnell finished 46 points ahead of McCarl, 112 points ahead of Stewart and 156 points ahead of Solwold.
"If you look at it over the five-race period, all four of us basically could have been in that Mean 15," said Tatnell, a native of San Souci, New South Wales, Australia. "It's pretty awesome. I think it was a cool way of doing it, especially looking at it now. I think every one of us stepped it up a little bit of a notch. It's all given us a lot of confidence within ourselves and within our teams. Whether we're a member of the Mean 15 or whether we're not a member of the Mean 15, we're here to beat the Outlaws either way."
