'KING OF THE OUTLAWS' DOMINATES LINCOLN EVENT By Richard Day NEW OXFORD, PA (June 4) - Rarely has more of an understatement been uttered than the one Steve Kinser delivered after winning the World of Outlaws' "A" Feature at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night. "Sometimes we don't run very well, and sometimes we're pretty good," Kinser said as he climbed from the #11 Valvoline Maxim in victory lane. Running "pretty good" has amassed Kinser 365 World of Outlaws "A" Feature victories, 10 of them this season. It meant leading all 30 laps and winning by half a straightaway when a standing-room-only crowd packed Lincoln's semi-banked, 4/10-mile oval Saturday. "The King of the Outlaws," the sixth-fastest qualifier in the 33-car field, earned the right to start the main event outside the front row by following Andy Hillenburg across the finish line in the Vivarin Dash. He steered the #11 around Hillenburg in the fourth corner immediately after the green flag fell, and opened a six-car-length advantage within four laps. While Kinser raced away from the field, the Swindell brothers - Sammy and Jeff - passed Steve's second cousin, Mark, between the first and second corners to take over third and fourth place, respectively. After Jeff Rohrbaugh's turn-two spin during the fifth lap tightened the field, Kinser built a six-car-length lead by the ninth lap. Sammy took the runner-up spot from Hillenburg when the race resumed. The yellow flag was flying again late in lap nine when Jeff Shepard allowed the #29 Weikert Livestock Buckley to hit the third-corner retaining wall. Within seconds after the race resumed, Billy Pauch brought out the red flag when he collided with the retaining wall in turn two and flipped. The quick red flag allowed Sammy - who fell from second to fourth on the restart - to return to the runner-up spot. The 11th and 12th laps featured Hillenburg and Sammy passing each other for second place three times. Andy made his inside pass in turn three stick by keeping the #2 STP J&J in the low groove. While Hillenburg and Sammy kept each other occupied, Kinser caught the backmarkers with a half-straightaway advantage during the 17th lap. With mechanical problems keeping Dave Blaney from racing at full speed, he drove the #10 Vivarin J&J into the pit area after being lapped by "The King of the Outlaws." Sammy was challenged for third place by Mark Kinser and Joe Gaerte for two laps before he started reeling in Hillenburg. Steve took the checkered flag for the 11th World of Outlaws "A" Feature victory of his career at Lincoln Speedway with Hillenburg racing through turn four. "Karl Kinser (crew chief and owner of the #11) has always given me a car as good or better than anybody else's," Kinser said in victory lane. "All I have to do is drive it." When asked if Karl made any mechanical adjustments on the #11 between his victory in the Second Snap-on Tools Heat Race and the main event, Kinser winked and said, "I don't know; I'm not sure if they did anything to the car." Sammy finished the main event in third place, ahead of Mark Kinser, Gaerte, Ecowater Fast-Time Award winner Donnie Kreitz, Jr., Jac Haudenschild, Jeff Swindell, Stevie Smith and 21st-starting Fred Rahmer. Due to a disagreement with car owner Al Hamilton following the Williams Grove event, Smith piloted Sid Blandford's #31 B&B Construction American Challenger Saturday night. He was the 12th-fastest qualifier, ran second in the Fourth Snap-on Tools Heat Race and passed three cars from his sixth row starting position in the "A" Feature.
