STEVE KINSER WINS FAMILY SQUABBLE AT LINCOLN By Richard Day NEW OXFORD, PA (August 7) - For the second consecutive night, a family feud erupted on the World of Outlaws tour. After Jeff and Sammy Swindell took turns leading Saturday's "A" Feature at Hagerstown, the Kinser cousins - Steve and Mark - exchanged first place seven times in Sunday night's main event before a capacity crowd at Lincoln Speedway. The Kinsers traded the lead four times in the 26th and 27th laps, then once more the next time around, before Mark suffered a flat right front when he bounced off the second-corner retaining wall. Steve picked up the pieces, and took the checkered flag for his 26th victory of the year as Mark raced through turn four. "The King of the Outlaws" took a victory lap, then jumped out of the #11 Valvoline Maxim and asked, "Did Mark finish second? I saw him hit the fence, and I wasn't sure if he'd be able to keep going." Mark got the Copenhagen-Skoal Shootout's 49th event of the year going when he shaved .056 seconds off the one-lap record Donnie Kreitz, Jr., set at Lincoln on June 4th. He circled Lincoln's semi-banked, 4/10-mile oval in 13.767 seconds, an average speed of 104.598 m.p.h., and received his ninth Ecowater Fast-Time Award of the year. Steve won the Vivarin Dash for the right to start the 30-lap "A" Feature on the pole, and burst into the lead when the green flag fell in the main event. While Andy Hillenburg and Fred Rahmer exchanged the runner- up spot three times in the first two laps, Steve opened a 10-car-length advantage. He caught the backmarkers six laps into the race. Mark, who started outside the second row, started making his way to the front of the 24-car field during the eighth lap when he steered the #5M Maxim around Rahmer high between turns three and four. Hillenburg caught the leader, and raced wheel-to-wheel with him through turn one early in lap 10. Mark passed Andy for second with a low move into the third corner two laps later. Rahmer traded third place with Hillenburg, and fourth with Sammy Swindell while Mark reeled in his cousin during the race's middle stages. Mark threaded the #5M between Steve and the inside berm deep in the third corner to take the lead late in the 17th lap. He opened an eight-car- length advantage within five laps as Hillenburg challenged Steve for the runner-up spot. Max Dumesny brought out the only caution flag slowing the fast-paced race early in the 26th lap, setting up a five-lap dash for the checkered flag. Steve crowded Mark on the ensuing restart, and took the lead in the low groove as they entered turn four. Mark regained first place deep in the first corner, only to have Steve pass him back in turn two. Mark returned to the lead with a third-corner pass. Mark allowed Steve to race past him as he slid out of the low groove in turn one early in the 28th lap, and hit the second-corner retaining wall as he tried to regain the lead. Despite suffering a flat right front tire, he managed to keep the #5M ahead of Andy for the final 1 1/2 laps. The $5,200 victory was the 12th of Kinser's World of Outlaws career at Lincoln Speedway - his second this year. Rahmer finished the main event in fourth place, ahead of Dave Blaney, Sammy Swindell, Stevie Smith, Jeff Swindell, Todd Shaffer and "B" Feature winner Lance Dewease. Jeff, the 13th-fastest qualifier in the 41-car field, started the "A" Feature on the seventh row and drove the #7TW Gold Eagle Maxim past five sprinters to finish in eighth place.
