KINSER DOMINATES WORLD OF OUTLAWS' LINCOLN EVENT By Richard Day NEW OXFORD, PA (June 3) - Neither rain delays nor lateness of night could keep Steve Kinser from his appointed rounds Saturday at Lincoln Speedway. The 14-time World of Outlaws champion broke the one-lap record, then the 30-lap standard in a green-to-checker run in the "A" Feature. The $6,000 victory was his third in nine events since returning to the Skoal Outlaw Series from the Winston Cup ranks. "I'm proud of the guys," Kinser said, referring to his crew. "They worked awful hard. We put this team together in only four weeks, and we won a race our third week out." Steve received his second Ecowater Fast-Time Award of the year for slicing .004 seconds off the previous one-lap record with a 13.763-second run in qualifying. The Snap-on Tools Heat Races were delayed 1 1/2 hours by rain, and more rain stopped the action for 1 3/4 hours before the Vivarin Dash. Mark Kinser edged Steve in the Vivarin Dash, run in a new five-lap record time of 1:10.23, setting up an all-Kinser front row in the "A" Feature. Fuel line problems forced Pennsylvania front-runner Fred Rahmer to forfeit his fifth-row starting position and start 23rd in the main event. Earlier in the program, ignition trouble in the #12 Apple Chevrolet Gambler caused Rahmer to finish seventh in the Second Snap-on Tools Heat Race and out of the Vivarin Dash. Behind Rahmer in the "A" Feature lineup was Andy Hillenburg, who crashed in the Third Snap-on Tools Heat Race and borrowed cousin Lance Blevins' #21L Citgo J&J for the main event. Engine problems plagued Hillenburg's #2 STP J&J during time trials, and his crash in the Third Snap-on Tools Heat Race kept him from starting the "B" Feature. Kinser raced through the high groove in the fourth corner to take the lead as the green flag fell in the main event, and opened a six-car-length advantage as Jac Haudenschild battled Mark for second place during the first four laps. Steve caught the backmarkers seven laps into the race. Hometown favorite Stevie Smith drove the #71M Ecowater Maxim past Donnie Kreitz, Jr., for fourth place during the 10th lap as the Kinser cousins and Haudenschild took the high road through lapped traffic. Kinser was 12 car-lengths ahead of Mark when Smith started challenging "The Wild Child" for third place midway through the race. The final seven laps featured a three-car battle for the runner-up spot between Mark, Haudenschild and Stevie. Steve was a full straightaway ahead of the field when his #11 Quaker State Maxim took the checkered flag. He completed the race in 7:42.75, an average speed of 96.774 m.p.h. Mark beat Haudenschild across the finish line by half a car-length for second place. Kinser had nothing but praise for his sponsor following the 13th victory of his career - and his third straight - at New Oxford's semi- banked, 4/10-mile oval. "Quaker State has been looking to get involved with the World of Outlaws for a long time," he said. "My sponsorship was put together pretty quickly, especially for a major sponsorship deal." Smith finished the "A" Feature in fourth place, ahead of Dave Blaney, Lance DeWease, 14th-starting Jeff Swindell, "B" Feature winner Joe Gaerte and Danny Lasoski. Rahmer received the Wells Lamont Hard Charger Award for passing 12 sprinters on his way to an 11th-place finish. For the first time in two years, Greg Hodnett was missing from the "A" Feature. The 1993 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year collided with Bobby Fletcher and managed only a seventh-place finish in the "B" Feature.
