Kinser Makes AARWBA All-America Team as Write-In

BURBANK, CA (December 14) - Defending and 15-time Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series champion Steve Kinser has been voted to the 1998 American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association All-America team, it was announced Monday. Although he was absent from the ballot, Kinser still attracted the strongest write-in campaign in the history of the AARWBA All-America team. He received more than twice the minimum number of votes needed for an Honorable Mention write-in in the Short Track category. It marks the 18th time Kinser has been selected All America in the program's 29-year history. He is tied with Mario Andretti for the most appearances on the team. "The King of the Outlaws" has been voted to the first team a record 13 times, three more times than second-place Don Garlits. Kinser became the first driver/owner in Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series history to win both championships in the same season in 1998. He was voted to the AARWBA's first team in 1978, 1980, 1983-1988 and 1990-1994. He was a member of the second team in 1981 and received honorable mention in 1979, 1989, 1995 and 1998. It's the second time he has made the team as a write-in.
