Kasey Kahne to Drive #8H at Eagle Nationals By Richard Day EAGLE, NE (June 24) - Kasey Kahne will start driving the #8H Energy Release Eagle this weekend at the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' Eagle Nationals, car owner Junior Holbrook announced Wednesday. "Kasey is young, but he has ability," Holbrook said. "We have to teach these young drivers to finish races. "He'll drive for us through the Red River Valley race (the Duel in the Dakotas, July 8-10)." Joe Gaerte, Holbrook's driver in 1998, left the team after 29 races this season, saying he would rather build engines than be a full-time driver. Oklahoman Shane Stewart drove the #8H into 17th place at Tri-City Speedway, then finished ninth in the O'Reilly's Auto Parts Sunflower Shootout at Heartland Park Topeka Sunday. "Shane did well," Holbrook said. "I really didn't expect him to do as well as he did. He did as well as he could possibly do. We just ran into some problems with the car, or he'd have done even better." Kahne has driven the Kelly Kahne Corporation #23K sprinter in seven Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series events this season. He has finished in the top 20 three times - 18th in the season opener at Kings Speedway, 15th at Perris Auto Speedway and 20th at Bloomington Speedway. Kahne was the Demnig Speedway and Hannagan Speedway Rookie of the Year in 1996. He ranked fifth in the 360 point standings at Skagit Speedway and was the Northern Sprint Tour Rookie of the Year in 1997. Kasey was the Turkey Night Rookie of the Race last season and earned Rookie of the Race honors at the Copper World earlier this year. WoO
