FRESNO, CA (June 24) -- Jason Meyers will be racing to the beat of a different drummer when he returns to the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series in early August.
Meyers, who opened the season with sprint car racing's premier series before returning to his native California, has acquired sponsorship from Craviotto Percussion Products and will hit the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series trail again in the "Night Before The Big One" event at Eldora Speedway August 2nd.
"We signed up with John Craviotto, who owns Craviotto Percussion Products," Meyers said Monday. "They're out of Watsonville, CA, and distribute their products to 38 countries in the world. They're #1 in the industry when it comes to drums. They produce high-end snare drums. Whether it's Motley Crue or a top jazz musician, they play his drums."
Meyers met Craviotto at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA, during the spring. They recently signed a sponsorship agreement that will allow Meyers to race with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series through the Gold Cup Race of Champions, scheduled for September 5-7 at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA.
"At the end of our agreement, we will discuss further possibilities with regards to finishing the year and running a full season with the Outlaws in 2003," Meyers said. "We were just in the right at the right time. He came to me and I've been doing a lot of legwork since we met. He's a super guy who loves racing. He has a lot of the same qualities and values we try to have, so he'll be a great asset to our team."
Meyers raced into the top 12 in all five feature races he ran with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series early this season. Among those were eighth-place runs in the season opener at Kings Speedway and the Silver State Shootout at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Meyers received the World of Outlaws Gumout Series Rookie of the Year award in 2000. He finished 14th in the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series point standings a year ago, finishing in the top 10 17 times, including five in the top five. Last July 16th, Meyers became the first driver in Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series history to record the first "A" Feature victory of his career at Knoxville Raceway.
