"HOT FOOT" JASON MEYERS GETS RAINED ON AT US 36, GETS ON TRACK AT KNOXVILLE
Qualifies Second at Knoxville
CLOVIS, Calif. (May 4, 2008) - Getting the call on Friday that the Missouri High-Banked Nationals at US 36 Raceway in Cameron, Missouri were rained out due to an extremely excessive amount of rain and severe weather in the area in the days preceding and including the event, World of Outlaws (WoO) driver Jason Meyers was admittedly concerned that he once again flew out to the Midwest from his home in Clovis, Calif. just to be rained out again. Thankfully, Mother Nature had a different plan for this weekend.
MORE RAIN, NOT TO MENTION TORNADOS IN MISSOURI
With extreme severe weather including several inches of rain and tornados tearing through western Missouri, home to the Missouri High Banked Nationals at US 36 Raceway the decision was made to reschedule the event at the bullring for Friday, September 12, capping off an exciting week of racing. During the stretch, Jason Meyers and the Elite Racing Team will compete four times in five days.
Starting at the Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, the Elite Racing Team will head next to the Missouri High Banked Nationals, then to Heartland Park Topeka and finishing up at the "Diamond of the Dirt Tracks," the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.
TUNING UP FOR FAMED KNOXVILLE NATIONALS
Arriving at the famed Knoxville Raceway for a makeup event from last weekend, Meyers signed in with 44 other drivers, all competing for a chance at the most famous Victory Lane in all of sprint car racing, the stage overlooking the beautiful black dirt at Knoxville.
Laying down an AMB i.t. qualifying lap that would slot him second with a time of 14.841 seconds around the flat, half-mile, Meyers would line up fourth in his heat and cross the line with only one driver in front of him. His heat race finish would earn him a spot in the Crane Cams Dash, where he would draw the seventh pill for the event, which determines the first five rows of starters for the A-Main event. Losing one spot in the Dash, Meyers would struggle early on in the A-Main event, finishing fifth.
The finish would be Meyers' sixth top-five finish in seven WoO events thus far this season, with three of them being trips to Victory Lane. Meyers would move to within twelve points of the WoO Point Leader, fellow competitor Craig Dollansky.
"We came out of the box good in qualifying and started struggling a bit in the dash and early on in the A-Main, but were able to work our way back up and the car was a ton better by the end of the evening," said Meyers. "Once again, I cant thank my crew enough and Steve Kent with KPC Chassis--these cars are great and extremely responsive to every single change we make through the night, no matter how minor those changes are."
UP NEXT FOR ELITE RACING:
The Elite Racing Team heads to Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill., on Friday, May 9th and then heads south to the Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, Kentucky the next night, May 10th.
