The "Hitman" hits the mark scores best finish of career with the Outlaws!
April 7, 2007 (Paducah, KY) Being an Outlaw is never easy, from the Dalton Gang to "Bat" Masterson these Kansas Outlaws never stayed in one place long and had to look over their shoulder to see who was behind them. While modern Outlaw Jason Martin may not be evading the law he does have to evade the competition and spends a lot of time on the road never in one place very long. This past week saw the native of Liberal, KS take time to come home, shut down and refocus. It was just what the "Hitman" needed as he finished a career best 4th last night at Paducah International Raceway.
The evening got underway with the NOS Energy Drink/Fatheadz.com Eyewear/Stage 8 Locking Fastners/Autoloader Multi-Bit Screwdriver/Speedway Motors #36 Maxim setting the 7th quickest time and starting 3rd in the 3rd heat. Martin would eventually finish 2nd in his heat race passing Craig Dollansky with 3 laps to go and a place in the dash. Martin would draw the one pill and start on the pole of the dash. The opeing laps saw drivers running high low and banging off on another, Martin would stay consistent and come home a strong 4th where he would line up for the feature.
In the feature Martin would power his way into the third spot on the opening lap, and ran there for the six laps. He then fell back to sixth and charged around Daryn Pittman and his close friend Chad Kemenah. Martin and Kemenah staged a very entertaining battle over the last five laps of the race for the third spot. Martin and Kemenah spent many days last year on the road together and continue to travel together this season.
"I'm really happy with my guys, they did a great job," said Martin, driver of the NOS Energy Drink/Fatheadz.com Eyewear Maxim. "It's really funny, that we did nothing different tonight than we have been doing all year. The track really fit our style."
"The time I spent with Amber (wife) and Chase (son) was exactly what I needed." Said Martin. "I just shut off my phone did not check e-mail just really shut down. It has been a rough start to the year but I never lost confidence in our stuff or my guys. Jason (Rozman) is a very skilled crew chief and I have all the confidence in him and last night we showed what we are capable of. I was really looking forward to I-55 tonight but we'll just go on to Eldora and keep this momentum going. We learned a lot there last year and in the final race had a good run with a finish of 12th."
