Does a Track ever owe you? Jason Martin goes back to Knoxville!
October 5, 2006 (Knoxville, IA) If you ask any driver or team out on the World of Outlaws if they think a track owes them, they will say no track ever owes you, but deep down they do not feel that way. Back in August at the Knoxville Nationals, the Hitman Jason Martin and his NOS Energy Drink #36 Maxim were amongst the fastest cars on the track but in the stat pages the finishes would not show it. His first ever nationals would see the youngser qualify a respectable 15th but the rest of the night was spent trying to catch up. The historic ½ mile in Knoxville was not kind. On finals night while climbing from 15th starting position in the "C" main to 6th in the opening laps the youngster was involved in a hard crash that would end his chances and send his #36 Mafia Motorsports Maxim out on the wrecker.
So does Martin and the team feel they are owed?
"No, I don't think it owes us." Said Martin. "Do I want to run decent there? Well no more than I want to run decent at any track we go to. Knoxville is a different animal just like the Grove or Eldora. I thought we had the Grove handled but we hurt our good motor on opening night and that put us behind the whole weekend. We have a good motor ready for this place and we get around there pretty good. I am confident going into Saturday and we have been running pretty good lately so we will go at it with our heads held up high and work to bring home a top ten finish."
