Pennzoil World of Outlaws return to I-55 Raceway July 14th!
PEVELY, MO (July 10, 2001) The Pennzoil World of Outlaw Series returns for the second time in 2001 on Saturday night, July 14th. The World of Outlaw's visited I-55 Raceway earlier this season on a very cold night in March. The weatherman promises much warmer temperatures for the second visit in 2001 for the Outlaws.
"This is a racy track. We can go three and four wide here and do a lot of passing. I'm kind of partial to this place," said Missourian Danny Lasoski, who leads the WoO points as of July 9th, 2001. He was won three "A" features in 2001 and has twenty-six top ten finishes in thirty-one starts. Lasoski is only fifteen points ahead of Mark Kinser in the race for the WoO Championship.
Lasoski, of Dover, Mo., has never won a World of Outlaws feature at I-55 Raceway, but he has won sprint car races at Pevely on other occasions. The most recent came at the track's annual "Open Wheel Wednesday" event on June 7, 2000.
Previous "A" Feature winners at I-55 Raceway are: 2000 - Jac Haudenschild on July 22; 1999 - Jac Haudenschild on July 24; 1998 - Stevie Smith on July 25, Andy Hillenburg on October 10; 1997 - Mark Kinser on May 18, Sammy Swindell on October 11; 1996 - Mark Kinser on June 12; 1992 -- Steve Kinser on June 10; 1991 - Sammy Swindell on May 4; 1990 -- Sammy Swindell on April 14; 1989 - Doug Wolfgang on April 15, Doug Wolfgang on August 11; 1988 - Steve Kinser on April 23, 1987 - Brad Doty on April 22, Steve Kinser on September 25.
The all-time track record at I-55 Raceway is held by Sammy Swindell, who turned a lap at 10.535 seconds on the one-third mile oval on October 10th, 1997. That works out to 113.906 m.p.h.
UMP Modifieds are also set to race on July 14th. The modifieds always provide some of the most exciting racing. They often keep the fans on their feet with three, four and even five wide racing. There are special ticket prices in place for modified teams as well as a higher purse. The modified feature will pay $800 to the winner.
Gates will open at 4 p.m. and racing begins at 7:00 p.m. Reserved seats are $32 and general admission tickets are $30. Children 12 and under will be admitted free for seating in the general admission areas.
I-55 Raceway, a high-banked, one-third-mile clay oval, is located 20 minutes south of Interstate 270 at Pevely exits 178 or 180. For tickets or more information, call the track at (636) 479-3219 or visit www.i55raceway.com.
