Mark Kinser Pads Points Lead With Huset's Victory By Richard Day BRANDON, SD (July 6) - Mark Kinser received 154 points for winning the "A" Feature and leading the most laps when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series invaded Huset's Speedway Tuesday. The victory increased his advantage over Danny Lasoski to 154 points in the standings. "This is our 12th win of the year, which is as many as we had all of last year," Mark said after collecting the $10,000 first prize. "The Mopar car is just great, especially in traffic. "We love coming to the Sioux Falls area. The people here are just great, and it's a pleasure to win here." Kinser opened the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' 36th event of the year by qualifying a disappointing ninth-quick in the 30-car field. He won the Third NAPA Auto Parts Heat Race and the Channellock Dash for the right to start the "A" Feature on the pole, however. "We had a problem in qualifying," Mark admitted. "We didn't know exactly what it was, but we opted to just change motors. The one we were running was something a little new, and it was actually de-tuned a little bit for the shorter tracks." Johnny Herrera drove the #1BK Networks Eagle around Kinser in the fourth corner as the green flag fell in the main event. Vivarin Fast- Time Award winner Tyler Walker relegated Mark to third place with an inside move in turn four late in the opening lap. A broken rear end gear caused Brooke Tatnell to stop on the back straightaway late in the second lap, bringing out the caution flag. Kinser steered the #5M Mopar Maxim into the low groove between turns one and two to regain second place as the race resumed. Mark caught Herrera early in the ninth lap and raced wheel-to-wheel with him through the third and fourth corners. He was poised to take the lead when Micah Schliemann hit the wall in turn two and brought out the caution flag seconds later. Kinser used an inside move on the back stretch to pass Herrera for first place as the green flag replaced the yellow. Mark was racing away from the field when the right rear wheel on the #11H Vivarin Eagle filled with mud, causing Tim Shaffer to stop on the back straightaway the next time around. Steve Kinser raced into the high groove in turn three to pass Walker for fourth place during the ensuing restart. Lasoski passed Walker late in lap 13, then used an inside move through the third and fourth corners to take third place from Kinser the next time around. Walker rode the rim around "The King of the Outlaws" in turn four to regain fourth place midway through the race. Mark was one second ahead of Herrera when he entered lapped traffic during the 16th lap. He raced through the backmarkers with ease and increased his advantage to 2.3 seconds within four laps. Walker kept the #35 Air Sep Maxim in the high groove to pass Lasoski and Herrera with identical moves in the second corner early in laps 22 and 23 to take over the runner-up spot. Kinser's and Walker's tires started smoking as they raced through the corners with seven laps remaining. A red flag for Jake Peters' first-corner flip and a turn-three crash involving Leonard Lee and Brian Paulus tightened the field and set up a five-lap dash to the checkered flag. Kinser controlled the restart and was 1.7 seconds ahead of Walker when he took the checkered flag. "I wasn't very concerned about the tires the last few laps because I knew I had the cushion of a couple of lapped cars," Mark said following the sixth victory of his career at Huset's. "I could keep the car straight and not have to worry about hurting the tires." "The Dude" drove the #83 Beef Packers Eagle around Herrera in the fourth corner late in lap 28 to claim third place. Steve Kinser finished fifth, ahead of Stevie Smith, Andy Hillenburg, Donny Schatz, Terry McCarl and 18th-starting Kevin Gobrecht. Walker received his fourth Vivarin Fast-Time Award of the season after pacing the qualifying session with a 10.777-second lap around the high-banked, 3/8-mile oval. Kasey Kahne was leading the Second NAPA Auto Parts Heat Race when he flipped the #8H Energy Release Eagle. He came back to win the "B" Feature and finished 11th in the main event. The Two Winners Racing crew replaced the engine in the #104+ Octane Boost J&J following time trials and Jeff Swindell raced into 13th place from inside the 11th row in the "A" Feature. Daryn Pittman allowed the #47 Casey's General Stores Maxim to flip during the Second NAPA Auto Parts Heat Race, forcing car owner Gil Sonner to bring out a backup car for the "B" Feature. Pittman used a provision and passed eight cars to finish 17th in the main event.
