2007 Race Recap: Donny Schatz won his second career World of Outlaws A-Feature event at the always racy 3/8-mile, which helped him remain undefeated in the state of South Dakota in 2007.
The race began with a false start that moved Terry McCarl to the outside of the front row beside Schatz. A second start was negated by an accident. On the third state, Schatz led into turn one on the low side of the track, with McCarl running high and taking the lead entering the third turn on the opening circuit and officially being scored the leader.
The six-time track champion would lead the first six laps, before Schatz would catch him in heavy lapped traffic. On the seventh lap, Schatz dove low in turn three to take the lead, which he would not relinquish the rest of the way. During the first 10 laps of the race, McCarl closed on Schatz and looked under him a couple of times, but could not make a pass.
Craig Dollansky took the second spot from McCarl on the 13th lap and made several runs at Schatz, including on the 18th lap when the pair ran side-by-side down the back straightaway. A late caution and then a red flag gave Dollansky a couple of chances to get a run on Schatz. He got several runs on Schatz on the high side of the track during the last five laps of the event, but each time the defending series champion fended him off and retained the lead.
Dollansky would finish second, with McCarl in third. Kerry Madsen came home fourth with Jac Haudenschild rounding out the Top-Five.
