Huset's Speedway's Make-Up Event On May 7 Adds To Thrilling World of Outlaws Weekend
Brandon, SD -- April 30, 2006 -- One of the most exciting weekends early in the 2006 World of Outlaws Sprint Series season just got a little more interesting.
The World of Outlaws already were in for an entertaining weekend with the inaugural Missouri High-Banked Nationals presented by Weld Wheels on Friday, May 5, at ultra-fast U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., and Saturday, May 6, for the Third Annual Wichita Twister Showdown at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan. Now, thanks to a rainy weekend in the upper Midwest, the World of Outlaws will roll May 7 into Huset's Speedway to help launch the season at the racy 3/8-mile oval in Brandon, S.D.
At U.S. 36 Raceway and 81 Speedway, grandstands open at 4 p.m. with on-track action at 6:30 p.m. The gates at Huset's will open at 4 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. Autograph sessions featuring various Mean 15 racers will take place before each event at 4:30 p.m.
All the recent rain also has shuffled the World of Outlaws television lineup on The Outdoor Channel. With showers blanketing the region on Saturday in Iowa, many of the Mean 15 teams gathered at the Rush Racing shop near Des Moines along with John Gibson, Brad Doty and The Outdoor Channel crew to film an episode of "Elbows Up!" for air on Wednesday, May 3. Among the segments scheduled for the special show is a conversation with Daryn and Mandy Pittman about life off the track, a discussion of the new rookie class with contenders for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award Presented By Maxim Racing and ButlerBuilt and even some close-up action -- and high-jinks -- of the first stop on the World of Outlaws Poker Tour.
In addition, next Friday night's event, the Missouri High-Banked Nationals presented by Weld Wheels, will be televised by The Outdoor Channel on May 10. One of the fastest 3/8-mile ovals in the country -- Terry McCarl owns the track record of 9.96 seconds -- the U.S. 36 Raceway event includes an added bonus for teams to push the envelope even more. Cox Design & Metal Fabrication in Altoona, Iowa, is putting up $500 to the fast qualifier. Plus, Bruce and Debi Cox will add another $500 if that driver breaks McCarl's record. Advance reserve tickets are available for this highly anticipated race by calling SLS Promotions between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Central at 815-344-2023 or by stopping by in person at nearby St. Joe Harley-Davidson. On May 5, fans can be part of the "Harley Ride" to the track that leaves from St. Joe Harley-Davidson on race day. U.S. 36 Raceway is just a few short miles west of I-35 on U.S. 36 in Osborn, Mo.
The Wichita Twister Showdown at 81 Speedway also will be filmed by The Outdoor Channel to air at 8 p.m. Eastern on May 17. Mean 15 driver Daryn Pittman is aiming to repeat as the Twister champion and begin a move back toward the top of the World of Outlaws championship standings. Tickets are available for this popular Kansas event through SLS Promotions (815-344-2023) or by calling the track direct at 316-755-1781
The busy weekend wraps up with the World of Outlaws traveling nearly 500 miles overnight to help kick off Huset's Speedway's season on May 7. Fans attending the annual Brandon Loyalty Days Parade are encouraged to continue the festivities with the high-speed, monster-horsepower action of the winged sprint cars at the 3/8-mile track. For ticket information, call 605-582-3536.
The Huset's Speedway event was the third consecutive World of Outlaws race to be postponed by rain. After a downpour bogged down Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway on April 21, the Mean 15 racers will return with the All Star Circuit of Champions to Lawrenceburg on July 7. More rain on Saturday, April 29, forced Knoxville Raceway to postpone its first World of Outlaws event of the 2006 season. A make-up date for Budweiser Night at Knoxville still is being arranged.
So as the Midwest dries out from all the rain, the upcoming World of Outlaws schedule now features the highly anticipated Missouri High-Banked Nationals presented by Weld Wheels on May 5 at U.S. 36 Raceway followed May 6 by the Third Annual Wichita Twister Showdown at 81 Speedway just outside Wichita, Kan., and the make-up event on May 7 at Huset's Speedway. The series then heads toward its first East Coast Swing with events May 12 at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio; the Ohio Challenge II on May 13 at K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio; Thunder on the Hill on May 16 at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa.; and the Commonwealth Clash on May 19 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., that sets the stage for the $50,000 Challenge on May 19 at Sharon Speedway.
